Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D S01E03: The Asset (Spoilers)

You must be joking! This is a Whedon show, remember? He kills off pretty women for sport!

“As pretty women to Joss Whedon are we to the gods” ?

This bothered me too. I said to my Good Lady Wife “Hey, aren’t those guys he knocked unconscious into the pool, you know, drowning now?”

I’d be more stunned if anyone didn’t on a show like this. It’s practically a requirement.

The fighting is no more unrealistic than other TV stuff. Medical shows, for example.
And even in Malta, shooting some dude results in hassles, it’s not your ‘go-to response’.

Excluding Big Bads, I think it’s pretty even…

16 men versus 11 women

Good list, but you forgot Halfrek, Cassie, Molly, Amanda, and several other Potentials, which makes it even more even. :stuck_out_tongue:

It still is more like Joss to kill off the female part of a duo. More angst that way.

Look, please use spoiler tags for this kind of thing. Not everyone watching SHIELD has watched every Joss Whedon show yet. (Though they should. :p)

You know, we just tried Arrow since Season 1 is on Netflix now. And it’s such a more charming show in pretty much every regard. And it isn’t even that great or that smart a show.

The show was over 11 years ago. At what point do we stop worrying about spoilers?

Besides, they were minor characters in the last season, not co-stars from Day One.

Don’t you have to kill someone neatly to make sure there’s no DNA for clones? Killing someone messily gets DNA everywhere.

Or maybe he’s noticed before and he’s only explaining because there was someone there who was noticing.

I only included major regular or recurring characters.

Halfrek, Cassie, Molly, Amanda, and several other Potentials

…all appeared in a single episode each. Some of them don’t even have names. But you’re right, I did forget one…

I assume flinging his corpse into the sun counts as “messy”. YMMV.

Arrow excels in action sequences - the fight choreography is about the best on tv right now (even Person of Interest), and saves it from the clangers in other areas. The new season is starting on a bad note, imo, with his vow to stop killing criminals.

The fight Ward had with the henchman made me think Whedon uses the same stunt people as much as he does actors - the whole “somersault into the pool/ground” bit goes back to Buffy.

Haven’t watched the episode yet; just wanted to stop in and say “holy crap, Ming-na Wen is 50…”

Why would we ever stop worrying about spoilers? I’ve never seen (for instance) The Deer Hunter, a movie from well over 20 years ago. If I was reading a thread about something else that Christopher Walken was in and someone just randomly posted in that thread “hey, that scene was even better than that crazy twist ending where it turned out he was dead all along in The Deer Hunter”, that would be a spoiler, and a needlessly dickish one.

How much does it cost you to use a spoiler box?

Yeah; not gonna happen. 11 years?! I mean, I’ll do my best, but you know, Old Yeller dies, dude.

I’ll be glad when she hits 51, so people can stop being amazed she’s not a decrepit hag at 50.

Oh, good point… she was born in November, so she’s actually only 49.

Mmmh— I’m going to say that the rising tide = water = Hydra thing is a fake-out by Whedon to make internet guys speculate. So when we expect Skye in the final episode of the season to be unveiled as Madame Hydra in a typical plot twist, it will turn out that it was either Ming-Na Wen or the British scientist chick all along.
