Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D S02E12: Who You Really Are

And if Bennett gets stupid in contract negotiations, this would become relevant. There’s been no move away from focusing on Skye in the storylines (if anything, the opposite now that Coulson’s little automatic writing problem has been cleared up). Yes, it might happen in the future, but I’m not holding my breath.

Nor would I want to.

She reminds me of a younger Alyssa Milano

I thought these per-episode threads were primarily to discuss that episode within the context of the overall show - whether it delivers, what it reveals, etc.

I get it: some folks don’t like Skye, don’t like the “use the girl-who-is-Becoming-Different to illustrate the arc of the show.” Cool.

But that’s what this show is, and within that context, and within the MCU, is doing a fine job for some of us - and is fun to discuss individually and as part of the MCU.

If you want to gripe about the Tropes being used, or what a looooser Skye is, please start a thread on that topic…

My $.02.

I’ll allow it.

This is the thread on that topic. This is where we discuss aspects of the episode - including whether we think it’s an example of one character unbalancing the show.

There have been discussions in this thread about Asgard and the tesseract and the Skrulls and the Avengers - none of which appeared in this episode. So a discussion of Skye - who was prominently featured in this episode - is clearly on topic.

So instead of “what do you think is going to happen next?” we have to spend time dealing with “I reject the premise of this show and wish they would do something different” ?

:smack:

Again, we get it: some folks don’t like Skye. Move on.

Originally Skye bugged me because she was just a cocky hacker who couldn’t be trusted, yet the whole team fell in love with her for no particular reason. Her character’s grown now, so it doesn’t bug me much anymore. She’s a trained agent and she’s got powers. It’s still kind of all about her though. Along the way we get more Inhumans and Kree & Asgardians so I’m not complaining too much. There’s lots of comic book goodness.

So Wordman, what do *you *think is going to happen next? :slight_smile:

But you see- that’s NOT what this show was supposed to be. It was supposed to be about Coulson and his Team of Agents of SHIELD.

NOT “Special precious snowflake Skye and her coterie”.

It’s wasnt supposed to be the premise of the show- that’s the issue. We wish they’d get back to **Coulson and team. **

So: start a thread entitled “why SHIELD is not about the right thing, as far as I am concerned.” Knock yourself out.

levdrakon: I think Skye will figure out how to deal with her powers, and the focus of the show will move to other characters…

I think Gordon will learn about Skye from Raina and Inhumans are going to show up to take Skye home with them. There will be drama as Skye is torn between her SHIELD family and her new Inhuman family. She could decide to go off with them temporarily to train, etc, but I doubt it.

We do have Cal, Ward & whatever Mac & Bobbi are up to. Cal is tied to the Inhuman storyline although once he teams up with the superpowered Index guys it could branch off. Mac & Bobbi seem to represent the xenophobic “anti-mutant” faction and Skye will probably be central to their coming to accept supers. Ward is the only plotline that could go in a completely different direction, assuming we see him again this season.

Dude, we are discussing the show. It’s not a hijack, not a threadshit. If you dont like where the thread is going- dont read the posts.

Nice.

And Skyes final expression as she walked off summed up her whole attitude: “I am so hurt that you guys dont trust me and are frightened of me. I mean, just because I have a power that I have no idea of how to control and that could destroy the entire Earth? And that I didnt trust you guys enough to tell you about? *I am crushed, *that’s no reason all all to be distrustful and scared. Oh, did I mention that I have no idea at all how to control this power that could destroy the entire earth?”

Yes, being rejected by her friends will drive her towards the Inhumans. I can almost hear the dialogue in my head. “Why shouldn’t I go with them? They don’t reject me!”

“We need to study you!”
“Study me? Like dissection??”
“No!”
“What? Not listening. Emotional!”

Unless one of you is named “Whedon,” you are talking through your hat. The premise of the show is what the show-runners/producers say it is, and they have repeatedly stated that having Skye become “Quake” was the plan from the start. Now you can complain that you don’t like the premise, but to say “It wasn’t supposed to be like it is” is rather presumptuous. And last time I checked, every member of the team is still there and an active part of the on-going plot(s) (pun intended.)

::rumble rumble::

Why are you guys fighting? I can’t handle it!

::rumble rumble::

Please! Stop!

::rumble rumble::

I can’t control it!

::rumble rumble crash::

I am mostly concerned that Coulson and company are so freaked out that they are overlooking the obvious advantages of having a metahuman operative who has already proven both her loyalty and overall worth to the team. They go up against evil superhumans regularly, has it occurred to no one that having some powered backup would be helpful? I realize they completely humped the Deathlok situation, but Collins was an unknown quantity before getting powers.
Just surprised that unless you are Captain America, the SHIELD stance is either assassination or indefinite detention for ‘study.’ Why aren’t we seeing the Avengers’ farm team? I know special effects budgeting is an issue, but I’d like to see an in-world explanation for the fact that every non-avenger metahuman we have encountered so far has been a villain. Hopefully, Skye, and the introduction of a Masters of Evil type group,will introduce more good guys with powers.

And yes, I know, Inhumans…until they ‘come out’ and pick a side, I am not going to assume they will be good guys in the context of the show.

Cite? What I have read is that they decided to go that way after the show took off, but yes, fairly early.

In any case, that’s not how the show was originally promoted.

Nerd Fight! :smiley:
