Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D S02E16: Afterlife

Ward worked with Cal & Whitehall, and Coulson thinks Whitehall/Hydra knows about the powered people.

Only because he’s carrying the idiot ball for the stupid, stupid writers, who had him inject Raina with a tracking device earlier this season.

Did they ever actually show Coulson using a tracking device? Because I wouldn’t put it past him to have just lied to Raina about it.

I don’t think a tracking device would survive terragenesis.

Doesn’t Coulson himself say it’s a bad idea, but bad options are the only ones he has left?

Praying-mantis beauty, oh man. I saw her in person a few months ago and she’s instantly recognizable for that reason.

Loved FitzSimmons, but, seriously, where on earth did Skye get the idea that Gordon would help her GET RID of her powers? I can’t help but feel that when Coulson said, “I lost her”, it was in the same way you’d lament losing a brain-damaged puppy.

But I barely see how it helps him at all. What does Ward know that is going to be helpful in the current situation?

Does anyone feel like maybe they’re blending some of the ideas of the traditional Inhumans with the Inhuman offshoots The Hidden Ones from the Fantastic Four Volume 3 Issues 51 through whatever?

Awww, I do love myself for avoiding Spoilers, network promos, and “Scenes from Next Week’s Episode”.
I was SO EXCITED when Deathlock made his entrance! Totally took me by surprise! Deathlock! YEAH!

So were we all. Deathlock wasn’t in any of the promos or scenes from next week. It may have been spoiled somewhere, but it wasn’t out in the open anywhere that I saw.

Nice!
It’s good to see the network showing some restraint. Both Sif appearances were in promos/next week scenes, weren’t they? I’m glad we got to be surprised by Deathlock.

Anyone else notice that Gordon (and/or the actor playing him) has a lisp that is occasionally quite pronounced?

I didn’t post last week because I missed last week’s episode and didn’t have a chance to see it until an hour before this week’s episode. So these are combined comments.

The show is moving along well and I’m enjoying the current arc - despite the fact that the whole Shield 2 plotline is ridiculous.

Another unbelievable thing that just got thrown out there was that Coulson and Hunter - both of whom are fugitives - were able to contact each other and meet. But I forgave this because of Hunter’s line, “I was only gone one week.”

I also loved the switcheroo by Fitz and Simmons.

Oh, and have we already seen “List”, the Hydra Head Coulson and Mike were talking about?

I’m actually thinking that when Bobbi and Mac are hit with the surprise Hunter reveal that we’ll find out Coulson had already been suspecting something was up, instructed Hunter to confront Mac so he could see how Mac would react, and instructed him “If it goes bad we’ll need a secret place to meet- there’s this beachside bar where they put way too many umbrellas in the drinks.”

What are the odds that Skye’s location will be revealed by an earthquake she sets off during her training, setting off a race among all the players to get there first?

I sure hope the Inhumans have another secret base somewhere.

I’m guessing based on the final scene of Captain America WS, and the supposed plot of Avengers coming out next month that List is Baron von Strucker.

Not me. The minute Coulson told Hunter that he’d called for backup, I turned to my wife and said “He called Deathlok.”

We saw List when Bakshir & the other Hydra head called him and told him about the other Hydra heads’ betrayal. He is von Strucker’s right-hand man. We may see him, but probably not the Baron himself until the movie. List & von Strucker let Hydra & Shield duke it out while they carry out their own plans involving experiments on supers.

I was wondering if Quicksilver & Scarlet Witch were Inhumans, and now we know the transformation doesn’t need a Diviner, so they probably are.

I don’t think we know that terrigenesis does not need a Diviner. Lincoln mentioned she’d gone through terrigenesis old skool, using a Diviner in a Kree temple. We know the Inhumans have Diviners (Gordon had one). So it’s likely that they just use the Terrigen crystals within the Diviner without the Kree temple.

After all, all those missing Diviners have to be Checkov’s guns eventually…

I realize this show papers over people making dumb decisions - but that would have been a dumb decision. If Coulson suspected Bobbi and Mac (and by extension Hartley) of being double agents, the last thing he should have done was share his suspicions with Hunter. Coulson had no past experience with Hunter. The people who knew Hunter were Bobbi and Hartley. So it was very likely that Hunter was another double agent.
