Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D S02E16: Afterlife

True, but von Strucker used Loki’s staff to transform Wanda & Pietro so I’m guessing a Diviner isn’t always necessary.

Well, Coulson said Hunter is an easy read, but Bobbi not so much. I think Coulson trusts Hunter, the way he trusted Skye immediately.

I honestly thought “May’s mom.”

I want to also say they improved Deathlok’s look this season. The old outfit was silly, this is a bit more generic but still an improvement.

Since it’s been established that a lot of people are born with the Inhuman genes and never know it and 2) that MCU is using Inhumans to take the place of mutants, I would think this is a good guess. I can’t imagine the staff having that sort of effect on anyone without the Inhuman gene.

Do we know that? We know he has the staff, and we know he’s got Wanda & Pietro locked up, but is it certain he used the staff to transform them? Maybe he’s studying it to figure out how to use its mind control abilities, so he can get Wanda & Pietro to work for him.

It might have been overzealousness on the actor’s part, but he told Skye “You did it OLDSCHOOL! using a DIVINER! in a KREE CITY!!!”

So, I kinda felt like the use of the Diviner was in itself noteworthy.
On an unrelated note, when we first saw Gordon bring Cal to Chinesenamedcity, he told Cal something like “She will meet with you and decide what to do with you.” I immediately thought that “She” would end up being Skye’s mom, but I thought it would be a surprise to Cal. I thought he believed her to be dead all this time. Didn’t Cal straight up tell Skye, when she asked, that her mother was dead?

But when Mom met with Cal at the end of this episode, it seemed like she had long ago tasked him with searching the globe to find their Daisy.
Thoughts?

Well, we know that von Strucker has Wanda and Pietro and that he has the staff and knows how to use its power in some way.
I don’t know that we’re expected to assume that he used it to cause their transformation.

Does the idea that Cal may have lied to Skye about her mom really surprise you that much?

This was my impression as well. The use of the Diviner was significant to Lincoln.

There’s an interview with Chloe Bennett I don’t have time to google for, but she explains

that it was Cal who found and stitched up Skye’s mom, allowing her regeneration power to bring her back to life. She then blamed Cal for losing their daughter, so he went off his rocker building his fantasy that when he reunited them with “Daisy”, he’ll be forgiven and get his family back.

And yet, if the Inhumans hadn’t been using Diviners for terrigenesis, how did Cal know it would do so to tell Raina?

I am seeing rumors of a spin off today which would bode well for a third season.

I don’t know it absolutely for sure. List & von Strucker have been experimenting on people and most were dying, except for Wanda & Pietro. I assumed Loki’s staff and its Infinity Stone was what they were using.

A 30 second cast off line would explain that.

At least Coulson finally acknowledged Gordon. Some guy showing up and teleporting people away is remarkable.

At various times in this series, Coulson has been betrayed by Nick Fury, Grant Ward, Melinda May, Bobbi Morse, Mack MacKenzie, John Garrett, Jasper Sitwell, Victoria Hand, Maria Hill, Izzy Hartley, Mike Peterson, Camilla Reyes, Franklin Hall, Akela Amador, and Skye. It might be time for him to consider he may trust people too readily.

Which is why I choked on my drink when Coulson said they had to keep Skye with people that trust her.

Could you explain the sandwich scene to me? It went over my head.

It was just a touching moment. Simmons knows Fitz’s favorite sandwich down to the finest detail and no doubt he knows her just as well. They’ve had their ups and downs but they’re still really close.

It was a callback to a first season episode. When Fitz was sent on a mission with Ward (before the Hydra reveal) Simmons made him the same sandwich for him to take with him.

And at the time, Ward threw the sandwich away because the scent of the pesto aioli was going to give them away.

Anyone else think it’s telling that we don’t see the driver of that cab?

Thanks! I remember that now, but it didn’t resonate.
