Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D S03E10: Maveth

Tune in February to find out!

I thought Hydra learned of the monster and something about it eventually ruling the world and so elected to try and bring it back and so rule at its side.

'cause that always works.

Then be prepared to wait, since the show returns in March.

Also, where did the giant Hydra logo statue come from? Which came first, that statue or Hydra? If the statue came first, how did Hydra see it to develop the logo?

I think this episode had some of the season’s best dialogue. Unfortunately, I’ve forgotten it all save for Coulson’s ‘Tatooine!’.

The ending was a bit too hug-and-kissy for my tastes, but it’s actually nice to see a couple of plot threads wrapped up, with new ones set in motion for next half-season (although the ultimate outcome was all too predictable). Also, regarding the entity on the planet, there was some dialogue by Simmons as to how it’s weakened/in pain, do I recall that correctly?

Because otherwise, Fitz holding his own in a fight against it, eventually bringing it (rather, its host) down falls a bit short of the ancient inhuman death god we’ve been promised. And by the way, I had expected the creature to be inhuman itself—wasn’t it called their former leader at one point, whom they however rose up against and banished, or am I hallucinating? But unless you get a really shitty terrigenesis they don’t typically end up as brain snails, do they?

Maybe the big plot twist for the second half of the season is that the ancient Inhuman Death god got taken down by the brain snail that lived on Tatooine, and the thing Hydra has spent centuries placating and semi-worshipping doesn’t exist anymore. Now they’ve let loose a creature that is as much a threat to them as it is to SHIELD, and they have to work together to overcome it. Sounds like a crossover in the comics!

It seems to me as though the storytelling has suggested that IDG may be limited by the physical abilities of the host… And, if it can only inhabit corpses, it could then be further limited by whatever condition the host was in when it took possession. Guess we’ll have to wait until March to find out?

That’s the thing about terrigenesis: there’s nothing “typical” about it. I presume that, for budget purposes, all the Inhumans on the show have retained their human appearance, or still been otherwise humanoid in nature. But, not all Inhumans are humanoid. Some of them are dogs At least one is, apparently, a door. There may or may not also be a couple of Inhuman trees. So, the IDG may well, in fact, be an Inhuman.

I gather we’re not going to find out what the deal was with the so-called “no fly” zone. Was it where the IDG liked to hang out? Just a small region prone to intense dust storms? The gateway to Oz?

For those going through SHIELD withdrawal pangs during the hiatus, something to tide you over: the cast of Agents of Shield and Agent Carter dubsmash.
