May went along with it because, although she’s telling Coulson it’s wrong, she’s as much family to Daisy as he is. They’re both career spies and have had their consciences seared with a hot iron, to coin a phrase from the Bible And no, Fitz wouldn’t be on board with it, if he knew.
…also, anyone else bothered that they took out Hydra off-screen in this episode?
My hope is that this was done due to events in Civil War and part of that movie will have Cap mopping up and dismantling Hydra. Maybe AoS was just forced to do it this way and hand it over to the movies.
I’m not sure there’s any set limit to how many Alisha (that’s her name) can create or control. On the carrier battle there appeared to be more than 3 copies. Killing the copies causes her pain, but apparently no permanent disability.
Maybe I need to rewatch the scene, but I thought that there were only two of her taken out?
And while it may be a bit skeevy, having a pretty girl who you can control completely still isn’t nothing. You could have her seducing all forms of politicians and military commanders, for information or access.
Supposedly, Hydra was already taken out once before. Then Ward started to rebuild it, just to discover that Malick was still alive and part of an equally big Hydra as the previous one. They can always invent a third Hydra, if they’re feeling needy.
And, I mean, in the real world you can take out Al Qaida, just to have ISIS appear. You take that out and probably something else will pop up in its place. It’s not entirely impossible for evil organizations to keep popping out one after the other.
Perhaps in the comics, SHIELD fights Hydra and that’s just all there is to it. Personally, for the TV show, I’m just as happy to have them fighting somebody else. Hydra isn’t really a very interesting villain. It isn’t even clear what their goal is other than to fight SHIELD?
If they just wanted to control the world, it seems like they’ve got enough people in enough high places in enough countries that really that shouldn’t be a big problem. If they stopped trying to attack SHIELD or maintain their own military organization separate from the ones that they have control over, they could just make the regular government and the regular military do the things they want, as part of the system. And they could do that, because they don’t seem to want anything that isn’t just part of regular governance. Maybe back in the day, they wanted to kill Jews or whatever, but fairly consistently they’ve maintained that modern Hydra doesn’t care about any of that.
Hydra is like if we assume that the Military-Industrial-Complex actually exists, but instead of the Merchants of Death sitting back, collecting money, and running things from behind the scenes, they decide to commit acts of terror and the occasional coup d’etat just for shits and giggles, not because they need to drive up the purchasing of weapons or because they lack sufficient influence in the government, no just because it’s fun to do every once in a while.
The Hydra stuff worked, in the beginning, because of Ward’s turnaround. Outside of that, I have to think that the writers can do better. (Though, their whole SHIELD vs. SHIELD stuff was stupid and those episodes should be nuked from orbit.)
With Hive, currently I have no idea what his goal is. Apparently, he drove another planet into desertification, implying that he just consumes everything over time. But so far on Earth, he doesn’t seem to be doing anything of that sort and instead has revealed himself as the first Kree experiment and the new ruler of Inhumans. But presumably, the consumer part of his personality will have to come back at some point, so there’s a chance that, that might be interesting and make sense.
I was referring to the other one killed by Lash.
No, John Hannah was merely introduced. I’m sure we will get plenty of him soon.
So, if Lincoln gets killed by murder vest in front of Daisy, would that snap her out of it?
Lincoln should only be killed by an Inhuman named Booth.
They had a Boothe on the show, and Daisy went and killed him.
Well, he didn’t have Powers…
We should definitely see if that would work. If it doesn’t, we’re still free of Lincoln.
Win-win.
I think we sort of got Hive’s plans at the end of the episode. He can only control Inhumans, so he wants to see if John Hannah’s transhumanist doctor can “create” Inhumans that he can control. The feeling that I have is that his goal isn’t to just rule Earth with an Inhuman army but to control an entire Earth worth of Inhumans and go against the Kree–the ultimate slave uprising and revenge kind of thing.
May 17th is the scheduled date for the Season Finale. It has been renewed.
Slightly off topic but related. Powers Boothe is Gideon Malick in Agents of Shield, I have just re-watched Avengers Assembled and noticed that Boothe is one of the shadowy SHIELD council. Is this meant to be Malick?
Ha! Walker in Eternity, you clearly haven’t been following these Threads. Yep, he’s the same character- although, we didn’t learn his character’s name until he showed up on the T.V. show. When Rosalind first mentioned Gideon Malick’s name to Coulson, Coulson said something like, “Yeah, I know who he is” then rattled off a few stats about Malick one of which was “former member of the World Security Council” so, yes, it’s been acknowledged on the show that he is the same character from the movie.
Thanks, I’ve only just come back to the SDMB after a long absence. It seems I’ve missed a lot.
Were you gone for a reason? Like, say you maybe took a stroll? To someplace far-reaching and never ending?
No great or exciting reason. I got busy at work and at home and then when I checked a couple of years had gone by. Amazing where the time goes.
Fitz opened your portal, huh?
