Agents of SHIELD: S4 E2 "Meet the New Boss" 9/27/16

Daisy investigates Ghost Rider, we meet the new boss, and FitzSimmons (and May) are dealing with the ghost.

I actually liked Daisy and Robbie’s interaction, that was much more interesting than last week. The interrogation scene kept my attention, but Quake jumping on the roof of the car only to be knocked off by a flaming supercharger was completely unneeded.

The ghosts are getting more interesting. They’re stringing us along with info but at least I want to know where it’s going. Are they evil or wronged? Darkhold? The book of the Damned. The Shotgun Ax is back! Mac is very bright, he figured out the Yo Yo - Daisy connection very quickly. The Daisy angst is still a bit much, but this episode was much better.

Another Peggy Carter reference. The new director’s motivation is probably not completely on the surface. Well, that was unexpected. I did not see that coming. And I like it. Coulson needed to hear that and he needs to stop having a ridiculous soft spot for May and Daisy.

“He doesn’t appear to be moving.”
“I can do May. I mean I can do that, May.”
“Well, he has it the worst”
“You just said that 10 seconds ago.”
“There was an incident, blood everywhere.”
“Great, this guy disappears. I hate these guys.”
“So you thought you’d redecorate?”
“I really wish our roles were reversed right now.”

“Your arm is just fractured, not broken.”
Whaaaa?

Looks the new director is Jeffrey Solomon Mace, a character created in the 1940’s who at one point in the comics was a replacement Captain America. Granted, he’s also now an Inhuman, so things change.

Definite improvement over the season premiere. I liked how they subtly got you onto the Director’s side by the end of the episode - yes, Coulson is no longer objective when it comes to his own team members, and cannot be trusted to deal with them.

Definitely a dig at ABC too. Coulsen said something about how there were so many more stories to tell about her.

Who created the ghosts? Radcliffe? The Director? It’s either someone we know or someone we will know. There were way too many times they said “he” instead of a name to not be setting up for a twist.

They also mentioned Darkhold, which is a mystical book of the damned. It appears that this is tied into the creation of Ghost Rider, possibly through Robbie’s uncle if they follow some of the comic book origins. So his Uncle Eli might be the “he” referenced by the ghosts. But being that this is all magic related I doubt Radcliffe or the new Director is involved.

He saved the life of young Jack Kennedy!

He didn’t know why the villain was attacking that guy – something about the future? Look, who among us can say what some oddball in a bizarre costume is thinking when spouting off weird comments? Jeff Mace just shrugs and saves the day, is all.

Isn’t the introduction of magic the lead in for the Dr. Strange movie coming out in the Spring?

Yep. Got to get the populace used to things mystical and weird.

I see that one agent transferred from the D.E.O. to S.H.I.E.L.D. She probably didn’t like working for aliens.

But he’s played by ‘show-killer’ Jason O’Mara. That does not bode well.

Pretty good episode but sorry to see it’s still mostly Daisy and the Agents of SHIELD.

Both Ms. Cups and I thought this was a vast improvement on the first episode.

This is noteworthy because Ms. Cups is a bit down on the show overall, so her thinking it’s good means it’s REALLY good.

I am happy that it’s gotten better and it made me excited for next week
