Yeah, I’m guessing the rest of the season will primarily focus on the last stand against Malick/Sybil and the Non-Inhumans. I don’t think the Chronicons can time travel anymore.
Also, that Inhuman is supposed to be Daisy’s sister that she doesn’t know about, right?
Yup, pretty likely. We know Daisy was born in 1988 (July 2nd, to be exact) based on dialogue from Cal and Jiaying in S2. Early in the episode, Simmons said the year was 1983. Assuming that Yo-yo and May’s presence didn’t disrupt too much of the timeline up to that point, Cora would have killed herself then, had Nathaniel not intervened. Jiaying grieves, moves on, and meets Cal, then Daisy is born.
Much more Cause and Effect than Yesterday’s Enterprise. Cause and Effect was the time loop episode where they slowly figured out what was going on and had to find the correct solution to break the loop. Yesterday’s Enterprise was a straightforward time-travel/alternate timeline episode.
I’ve got to say I’m going to miss the hell out of Enoch. Without Fitz around, he’s my favorite character. Though LMD Coulson has been good too. Shame they had to ruin Enoch’s moving death scene by giving Daisy a bunch of lines in it (Chloe Bennett is a terrible actor IMHO).
Has it really been that long since I watched Star Trek? Wow. I guess I should have trusted my instinct to look it up, but instead I arrogantly assumed my memory was perfect.
It’s nice to have a timeloop story with two characters looping. Then they can have a conversation across different loops. “He did not appreciate the irony” - “No, he did not”
Cause and Effect also had Kelsey Grammer’s cameo as Captain of the Bozeman, complete with Wrath of Khan era uniform (best Starfleet uniform ever, hands down).
Yes, I agree, but… wibbly-wobbly timey wimey, no? It certainly seems from their behavior this episode that Jemma and Enoch have seen Fitz die, at this point in their respective timelines. But they have a time-machine. (a horrible one, but a time machine nonetheless) So I fully expect to see him again anyway before all this is done (though at this point, not much before).
Absolutely loved the episode. Disagree on Daisy’s acting; I don’t think she gets enough credit, she’s usually stellar, and that scene was no exception. (she’s particularly good at tears. Much like Alyson Hannigan, when she cries, I cry.) The only issue I had with the death scene was that it seemed a bit too long, especially after the manic pace of the rest of the episode. I wouldn’t have wanted it manic as well, and I’m glad it got some weight, but still, a bit too long. (Also, I would have liked at least a good-bye hug from Simmons and/or Deke. They should have been affected the most, and seemed to brush it off quickly with just a “nice knowin’ ya” pat on the shoulder.)
I’m a total sucker for time loop episodes, and this goes on the shelf with the great ones (Cause and Efffect, Heaven Sent, Life Serial…)
No question that this was a great episode. The plotting was fine and the way they used the characters to comment on the madness was deeper characterization than they usually ever get.
The only problem - for me, because I notice stuff like this - is the way they knew that every second counted during a loop and sometimes they would just stand there and emote for a while before doing anything. Yeah, sure, it advances the plot and deepens the characterization, but I want to yell “hurry up!” at them. The worst use of this trope is at the end of The Dark Knight Goes Boom, where a nuclear bomb is about to kill millions of people and seconds literally mean life or death and everybody stands around for an endless goodbye scene.
Fitz will undoubtedly turn up, no later than the penultimate episode. He and Jemma will be united. Deke’s parent has to get born. (Or can she already be pregnant? I didn’t watch last year, so I don’t know the time line.)
My fearless prediction: the ending will be bittersweet.
We don’t know how how long Simmons was away from the team at the end of last season, but they imply it was a considerable amount of time before time traveling back. She might be pregnant, or she might have already given birth.
…I remember rolling my eyes at the premise of Season 7 but it turns out I’m really loving this run of episodes.
The Deke and Mack episode and this episode have been two of my favourite episodes ever, and I loved this episode for a couple of things. Firstly: this was classic Agent Coulson and classic Daisy and their interactions were gold. I’ve loved Coulson since “A Funny Thing Happened on the way to Thor’s Hammer” and I didn’t like what they did to him last year, so it was great to see him (and Daisy) as the leads here.
And I loved seeing Agent Sousa essentially say farewell to Agent Carter here. After Endgame it became obvious that him and Carter was never going to happen, but Daisy and Sousa really works for me. I hope they get a happy ending.
Well that one was kind of a dud. Last week would be a tough act to follow no matter what, but this felt particularly underwhelming. Didn’t realize that was Paxton’s son. I was going to complain about his acting, but now I’ll give him a pass. This band of punks just isn’t cutting it as a series finale Big Bad. I hope somehow the chronicoms come back at the end, but even then, Sybil is no Aida. I really liked Nathaniel as skeevy torturer, but I’m not buying him as store-brand Magneto. (OK “liked” is a weird word there, but I thought he worked well in that context, is what I mean.)
So I guess Sousa’s right and the timeline is just completely borked, but it doesn’t affect our band of travellers. (Really wish we’d have gotten some confirmation of what the state of Mack’s childhood memories of his parents are. Do these changes have consequences or not? I guess not, otherwise Daisy would have done the Back to the Future thing and faded away, if not right after Cora didn’t kill herself, certainly after Jiaying’s death, which was lame, by the way. Nathaniel should have died to her power.) Nice to see a mini dollhouse reunion, though, even if Enver and Dichen’s conversation wasn’t much more than pleasantries. I realized last night that Enver was with “Daisy’s Mom” on Dollhouse and now is with her “daughter” on SHIELD. ick!
Now that they addressed it directly, I’ve become convinced that Fitz being “dead” is going to be subverted somehow. Deke’s optimism will have to pay off.
I can’t remember- didn’t Jiaying regenerate from being, you know, diced by Hydra? I can’t remember the situation of her previous resurrection.
I’m predicting Deke will re-enact Die Hard next week.
If Fitz is, actually, dead, I’m gonna be so irritated. It was a big deal when Fitz and Simmons vowed to never be apart again, and if the show ends without them being back together it kinda ruins the import of that scene.
Yes, but with the help of Cal providing people for her to drain the life out of. Also, she may not have been dead then, just “left for dead”. She might be able to drain her way out of near death, but not actual death. A snapped neck is how she eventually died in both timelines. Too quick to allow for her to drain, I guess.
I’m totally not buying Jemma’s worry that she erased her memories just because they were too painful to her. If that was the case, she wouldn’t have ordered Enoch to flat-out kill her closest friends just to protect Minerva. There’s still something in her brain that could wipe out humanity, not just memories of Fitz’s death.
