Should be simple. I built the walls, created the gate over the wall, and unlocked it. Now I can’t figure out how to open the damn thing so I can get my Army in and out.

If it’s unlocked it should auto-open when your units get close to it.
Be careful, when you mouse over the icon it’s telling you what the button does NOT the gate’s current status, so if it says “unlock gate” it means the gate is currently locked.
That’s what I thought, that it should auto-open, but it does not. I figure out that the option should be lock when I want it unlocked, if that makes sense.

Never mind, I figured it out. I build the gate *instead *of the wall and it will open. Now where is my copy of Spear of Destiny?

I also thought that there was an un/lock option when you selected the gate. That might be Age of Mythology, though.
