Agoos out!!

With a, “hurt calf”.

Apparantly Arena doesn’t want to say he pulled the guy since he has so much experience. I don’t think anybody would blame him though.

Now we can see if the other teams can score without our help.

Wonder who he’s going to put in… or maybe go with a 3-5-3 like we basically did against Poland.

Don’t do what you did against Poland.

But yeah, Agoos can be easily missed. Bring on those Mexicans!

My, I sound like an American, don’t I?
Next thing you know I’ll pop open a can o’ Bud, ride around in my pick-up truck, and shoot stuff.

The worst part is that Hejduk will be out on suspension for the game. I think that the possibilities are Mastroeni, Berkhalter, Llamosa and Regis. Mastroeni isn’t a true defender, and they need two anyway. It’s not a good thing, necessarily, although most US fans won’t miss Agoos back there.

Coldie, you can be an honorary American if you want. Let me know and I’ll get started on the paperwork. BTW (mild hijack) you wouldn’t believe how nuts the Koreans are about Hiddinck. They want him to naturalise as a Korean and are already talking about renaming Busan stadium for him. I bet a clogboy couldn’t buy a drink for himself anywhere in that country.

Yeah, it’s all over the news here too.

He talked to one of Korea’s ministers after the victory over Portugal, and managed to get all the players out of the military draft! It’s 3 years in Korea from what I understand - a serious handbrake on a player’s carreer.

Agoos’s own goal was one of the greatest of all time goals. It was an excellent volley, inspiration barring none. Too bad it was in his own net though. I’m glad he’s gone. He is quite possibly one of the best defence-wise I’ve ever seen.

It’s all really too bad. Agoos should have played in France, but whathisname kept him on the bench. Now that he’s almost as old as I am, Arena throws him a bone.

But as much as Agoos pretty much had his head up his ass for two and half matches, I begrudge him nothing. He was the heart and soul, and a true leader of the American squad in what could be the genesis of their internatinal birth. Poetic, no?

I think Mastroeni should be in there. He did a great job against Portugal with Reyna out. With both of them in at the same time, I think the middle of the field would be ours.

The one thing I do know, frickin’ Beasley should never, ever, under any circumstances, step foot off that field. He is the best player we have, bar none. I think in a few years he’s going to be filthy rich playing in Europe somewhere.

Wasn’t it Lalas that kept Agoos from playing in 1998?

I think so. Stupid mop-head.

I’m not sure. Don’t hold me to it, but I think Lalas was only on the squad in Italy and in the States.

I could be wrong. It actually happens quite often.

I can’t remember Lalas playing in '98 either… but maybe I just erased it from my memory

Well, he WAS on the team in 1998. That site is a gem, BTW.

AFAIK, it was Arena’s loyalty to Agoos that kept him on the roster (this was the opinion of the football analyst on ESPN Radio’s Tony Kornheiser show, whose name eludes me at the moment.) Whatever the reason, I let out a brief hoot of joy when I linked off manutd.com to the Reuters story on the game and saw the words “Agoos” and “calf injury”.

Everything I read shows both teams will be playing 4-4-2, though you never know with the Mexicans. I suppose it wouldn’t be shocking to see a sudden rise in the number of midfielders…

Regis Pope Sanneh

Stewart O’Brien Reyna Beasley
Donovan McBride Moore
Sorry, I’m not a Mathis fan, he’s too damn hit or miss about scoring and his touches are really bad in support. Guess we’ll find out if Regis is up to keeping up with the Mexican wings.
