Ah, the wisdom of a pageant contestant...

So I’m scanning thru my new Glamour magazine the other day, and I come across a colorful page with various little quotes by people ranging from celebrities, authors, etc. Most of them are cute or thought-provoking, except one. I actually laughed out loud at the one near the bottom of the page. It was from a current Miss Whatever-Southern-State (I can’t remember)…

[paraphrased slightly] “Since we only accomplish about 10% of what we set out to accomplish, we should try setting out to accomplish 110%”

I was just about to turn the page when my mind said, “Wouldn’t that be 11%?” Hmmm…

I was surprised that Glamour, one of the few magazines that seems to celebrate the intelligent, ambitious, powerful side of being a woman (nevermind the ubiquitous “Sex Secrets He’ll Never Tell You”-type headlines), would feature a quote that was supposed to be taken seriously that made absolutely no sense.

I wonder if that chick will ever realize what she said. I know what she meant to say…but that’s not what she ended up saying. I guess she accomplished only 10% of what she set out to do.

I am 1000% with you!

I, for one, take ‘Glamour’ seriously (I mean the “Sex Secrets…” part anyway).

Isn’t that the magazine that inspired “The Contest” on Seinfeld?
