it is a lovely relatively warm day, and apparently the season has turned my chickens into sex maniacs … i have 3 roosters running around in my front yard covering about 12 hens … just as the bus stops to drop off the neighborhood kiddies from school…a veritable poultry orgy
though i think the funniest sight is the bantam roster Chewie trying to cover a rather large white Hall cross hen … he is … um… persistant, Ill say that for the little guy!
No chickens here, but the doves are courting quite loudly all day long. Not counting the statue pooper pigeons, there are 3 kinds of doves–Mourning, White Winged, and Eurasian and each species sounds like it’s trying to outdo the others with various hooting and moaning noises.
And they actually don’t wait until spring–their breeding season starts in January and continues into the fall. So there are always lots and lots of doves.
The prairie dogs are out, the grackles are shaking their tails and staring at the sun, the muscaria is blooming, and I suspect we’ve still got another good freeze in the works.
