AIM doesn't want to download, any help?

It was working fine until the newest version came out. When I tried to download the update it said C:\Program Files\AIM\Sysfiles\imagehlp.dll could not be opened. In a stroke of genius I figured if I completely remove AIM then download it again, the problem would be gone. No dice. I get the same message when I try to download the whole thing again. Anyone know how to fix this?

What is AIM?

AIM is Americaonline Instand Messenger. Have you checked to see if the file is there? Also, if you are running W2k or XP pro make sure you have rights to use the file. Assuming you’re built as an administrator you should, but it’s worth checking it out anyway.

Yea, everything else looks alright. I’ve downloaded other stuff without a problem. I searched and found the file and then deleted it. Then I downloaded AIM and everything was going fine, then the same message popped up and canceled the download. Anyone know whats up?

I don’t know about your AIM .dll error but I want to take this oppertunity to recommend Trillian. It combines ICQ, IRC, MSN, Yahoo chat and AIM in one program and has some neat features to boot. All of the names in each of the message servoces are imported without any hassles. I like the encryption, esp during WIFI sessions. Its free/shareware and the nag factor is pretty low.

Yep, Trillian.

Have you tried rebooting after you delete that file?

I’ve heard good things about Trillian too, but if you’re behind a firewall/router or if you know anyone who is, you’ll probably want to use the official AIM program to take advantage of the new features for file transfers. With third party clients, or older versions of AIM, it can be very hard to send files or open direct connections if either party is using a firewall.
