Ain't really said it before... sayin' it now: I fucking told you so.

Ahh…just like dear old mom. “If you don’t stop crying, I’ll GIVE you something to cry about!”

-Joe

Huh? The OP is crowing about predicting some vague notion of “ruin,” so I thought I’d do the same thing and cover my bases by issuing the same prediction for both candidates.

I guess in your world having the temerity to not acknowledge Obama’s divinity makes one a “fucking retard.”

So, you predict both sides and that makes you all prescient? You are a fucking retard. I’m sorry it comes as a shock. Don’t forget to wear your helmet, Corky.

-Joe

So Stoid predicts some vague notion of “ruin” and that makes Stoid all prescient? That’s all I was saying with my original post. You need to get ahold of yourself.

I’d like to think that even back then, I was pretty civil, and it’s not like I was ever a Bush supporter, just a conservative-leaning Libertarian. These days, I tend more towards left-liberalism, with a bunch of libertarian tendencies tossed in. Something about not being a 22 year old college student whose theories have yet to be contradicted by real life anymore. I do kinda miss having all the answers, though…

My recollection is that you were indeed always civil and reasonable. And sane.

tensed 'cause I seemed to recall strong disagreements. But frankly folks have work pretty hard to get on my “I remember you as being an asshole” list (and political persusion isn’t a pre-req)

Re: the 22 yr old know it all gig- yea, I remember being real deep back in college. So I feel yr pain.

:smack: Sheesh- clarification- waterj2 is/was not on my ‘asshole’ list - in case it mattered to ya.

And articulate and considerate. And a fine role model for how to disagree respectfully. And also not one of the folks I remember arguing against reality based politics, so probably not one who needs to hear “I told you so.”

But there are many who do need to hear it, so say it loud, sister. (And I wish we’d been wrong.)

Factually speaking, GWBush presided over the first economic expansion where median income actually fell.

Even before the worst financial crisis since 1929-1933, the economy sucked.

Holy freaking Jesus Hussein Christ, you missed the ball so hard I think you’re not even in the right stadium.

Perhaps, but what does that amount to?

I’ve always been wary about the risk of escoriation, any fucker even TRIES to excoriate me then they’re fucking dead matey…

Bastards!

What Measure for Measure was saying is that even when times were goingwell, he let the wealthy classes rip off the rest of the nation so enthusiastically that median income actually fell. (Income for the top 2 percent went through the roof.) Now we’re having the worst financial crisis since the Great Depression. I translate that as, George Bush and the Republican Party have been total fucking failures at managing the economy – for all eight years for most of us, and for the last six months, for all of us.

I don’t think many expected Bush 43 to be a good president. He was simply the less offensive of two miserable candidates. 50% of the voting public beat you to the “told ya”, Stoid, and here you are trying to take credit for your dog’s superior powers of insight into the hearts of men on your effing TV.

Oh, is THAT what he meant. Well in that case…Bullshit.

He didn’t LET anyone DO anything. He doesn’t have the power. What we’re experiencing is a two-fold problem with the darkest side of capitalism. First, in a free market economy the stooges with the coins make the rules, second, the people least able to pay are most put upon to do so. (i.e. bad/no credit=high interest rate=inability to pay or afford goods and/or services).

We wanted big houses and big mortgages with small monthly payments, no credit checks and no money down. The banks wanted to give us these things because that meant THEY would make money. It was, as the tech bubble, a false foundation that gave way right before the election. This, I predict, is why the Democrats will win in a landslide. I will also predict that the Democrats aren’t going to be able to fix this mess in four years and may actually screw it up worse before it gets better.

As far as sky-high executive salaries, as bullshit as it seems to pay the execs more while the little guy starves, that’s the nature of the beast. You can’t have a free market like the republicans want because shit like this happens, you can’t have a big regulatory body controlling your businesses because they can’t compete in the world market.

Obama doesn’t have the answer, neither, obviously does Bush, but this particular debacle isn’t on his head, at least not alone.

You want small government yet you vote republican. Do you not pay any attention to what they do as opposed to what they say. They always make government bigger and more expensive. They greatly increase the national debt yet convince people they are fiscal conservatives. If I wanted a smaller weaker federal government ,the repubs would not be my choice.

I’ve asked at least three times on these boards for someone to argue that Obama is the better chice for someone who wants small government and so far no one has taken up the challenge. Polls close in 8 hours or so, so get cracking if you want to be the first. Also, note that I want small government, not just fiscally responsible government (that is, I want low government spending on an absolute basis, not just when compared with tax revenue).

Because Bush sux. Any questions?

War is the health of the state, and the only thing that McCain has consistently believed in over the years is that America should get involved in more foreign wars. Though I’ve no great faith in Obama ratcheting down our military (or even slowing its growth), he’s much more likely to do so than McCain.
