airliner? with military escort

Wow, I was just laying on my bed, reading and listening to the Red Sox pre-game on the radio and I heard an unusually loud plane. I looked out my window and saw what I think was an airliner with two military jets at each wing flying very low (in the hundreds of feet?). There are a number of small airports around here (Norfolk, for one).

I am about 20 miles west and little south of Boston (Medfield – 02052). The plane was flying southeast. Scared the crap out of me. Maybe it was some kind of cargo plane and not an airliner. This about 12:50 pm. I grew up here and never remember seeing anything remotely close to that.

If I’m not mistaken, dont fighters sometimes make flyby checks on any suspicious aircraft in the USA now? Theyre just precautionary checks to make sure the jet is what its transponder says it is.
I thought it was one of the precautions put in after 9/11 on a permenant basis, though i know that casual checks were always quite common, especially near restricted airspace.
Or maybe the jet was Air Force 1, and so it got special [standard?] protection.

It was a military fly-by over Gillette Stadium before the Patriots game. What you thought was an airliner must have been a transport, tanker, or cargo plane of some kind.

Good call, Robot. Had I been listening to the Patriots pre-game rather than the Red Sox, I might have figured that out.

I was definitely expecting to hear news of a plane diverted from Logan for losing contact with the traffic control.
