Al-Beshi - Saudi Executioner

One of the hotly debated topics - Capital Punishment

Here’s how the leading executioner in Saudi Arabia see’s it.

Al-chop

An executioner’s life, of course, is not all killing. Sometimes it can be amputation of hands and legs. “I use a special sharp knife, not a sword,” he explains. “When I cut off a hand I cut it from the joint. If it is a leg the authorities specify where it is to be taken off, so I follow that.”

:frowning:

From the article, he sounds like a pretty decent fellow.

He doesn’t sound like a bloodthirsty maniac who is doing this job for kicks. Just some guy living in a different part of the world with different views who has a really, IMHO, crappy job.

In Iran they have abandoned man’s inhumanity to man in favor of joining the modern day world.

Wait for it …

The Iranians now have an electric machine that is used to amputate the limbs of criminals.

they use a doctor and do a surgical amputation. I’m unsure how much better that is.
The price in Saudi used to be SR 500 or around $130 per head back in the eighties. It’s probably gone up by now. Rumor has it that the prisoners are drugged before they get to the execution ground.
This usually takes place right after Friday prayers in downtown Riyadh and anyone is invited to watch. The whole process is EXTREMELY public but for some reason they don’t like you to take pics or film it.

All the best

I spent some quality time with the Al=Bishis a few years ago. (Although not the Head Guy himself.) Nice folk.

They say the going rate is SAR5K per job (about USD1,250) and they get free first-class travel on business in the Kingdom.

(So, what do you do? Pardon me sir, there seems to be a problem with your carry-on bag.)

They did say the executees are drugged.
