I no longer listen to most of the political pundits on TV, but I overheard one of them make an excellent point. Gore should have won in a landslide victory. Think about it: the economy is doing well, unemployment is low; all of the “political climate” factors in this election favored the incumbent party (Gore). The fact that Gore didn’t completely decimate Bush shows that Gore’s base of support is really very small. As it is, Gore couldn’t even pull 50% in a great economy. If the economy had been in a recession last summer, this election would have been a slaughter on the scale of the '84 Reagan-Ducakas election.
Three part answer.
A)Countdown to the Pit begins…now.
B)Dukakis - note the spelling - ran against G.H.W. Bush.
C)How’s the weather in Oslo, Vidkun?
- There’s no question.
- There’s no debate.
- No opinion is solicited.
- It’s not about this board.
- It certainly doesn’t belong in MPSIMS - we’ve had about 200 of these threads already, and this one doesn’t add anything. Plus, we could really do without titles like “Such-and-such is a loser”.
- As far as rants go, it is pretty weak.
