Personally, I think the proper defense would be to send a posse of outraged rappers, Jesse Jackson and Oprah (are they still crying?) over to ‘‘deal’’ with the situation.

House nigger isn’t the same as ‘nigger’. And ‘nigger’ in the term house nigger doesn’t mean ‘nigger’.
House nigger is something that a fellow black uses, to express disgust at the way a black man cow-tows to a white man. It is not a nice thing to say, but it is not really considered a ‘racial slur’. Of course, this is all my own understanding of the term, as it is a commonly used term in my ‘circles’.
When a white man says ‘nigger’…well, I guess I don’t know what he is thinking. But when a black man says ‘house nigger’, I am pretty sure he is not expressing disdain for blacks as a people.
Again, I admit that I have no idea why I feel I should make a point of this distinction.
