Al Zaqawi gets his 72 virgins!

Fuck, guess that makes me an idiot, too. Trunk is one of the biggest assholes on this board. I got not trouble believing his posts in this thread have nothing to do with a deeply held personal conviction, and everything to do with an excuse to assume a false position of moral superiority so he can condescend to the rest of the board.

I mean, I don’t know for a fact that that’s his motivation, but based on his history, I’d give it 50/50 odds.

Well, if you want the label, go right ahead, but i’ve never thought that it suits you very well.

See, i just don’t get this.

There are plenty of posters on this board who i think are idiots, but i think that they come by their idiocy, and their idiotic positions, honestly, and are genuine in expressing their idiocy. This doesn’t really make me like or respect them any more, but it’s still not, to my mind, trolling.

The fact that Trunk might be an asshole doesn’t make him a troll, and i think that failing to draw that distinction is just going to end up making the “troll” accusation meanigless.

I didn’t actually think he was Nick Berg’s father…obviously, we know what Mr. Berg thinks about the situation from his interview. But, there have been a bunch of people murdered over there, and I didn’t think it was unfeasible that it was a true story. Considering the seriousness of it, I thought it was better to err on the side of believing it vs. ignoring it or challenging it, in case it really was true.

That’s just silly.

For one, I don’t know if I’ve ever been involved in any death penalty threads here, but if you ever found where I expressed a belief inconsistent with my position here, I’d be very surprised. What I’m expressing here is a long held, deeply seeded belief.

For two, you terrifically overestimate the amount of fulfillment I get from the SDMB if you think I’d take a position just so I could condescend to others.

One-upping a few usernames isn’t that big a deal to me.

Ever seen a post by Martin Hyde?

Wow, Mince, I read your post the same way. For shame.

I bet you’re in Lute Trollbotcher’s camp now, appealing like a motherfucker for an Edit function.

Hey, I’ll be one of the first to tell you Trunk’s an asshole. You can’t front on that.

The thing is, dancing on a grave is ignorant, like wishing on a star, praying to God or chanting “Allahu Akbar” as you hack off a guy’s head with a butterknife. But hey, if it makes you feel better, I say go for it! As for me, I recall the immortal words of a dear, departed friend: it is unseemly to bash a man who cannot defend himself.

Zarqawi’s dead, once again. BFD.

I read it at face value, responded to it at face value. Mince was nice enough to come back in on his own and clarify the intention of his post. I hope he never does it again, but give him a break, he has not tried to maintain a lie, he just had one poorly worded example. Mince, your Ok by me, just please do not do it again.

Thank you,
Jim

I’m hardly claiming that every idiot on the board is a troll. Trunk, however, isn’t your garden variety idiot. Based on his posting history, it seems like his primary motivation on the boards is to be as big a tool as humanly possible. I don’t see any particular reason to assume that motivation does not inform his posts to this thread. If everyone in here were talking about what a shame it was that al-Zaqawi were killed instead of arrested, and how precious even the most debased human life is, I suspect he’d been in here calling us bleeding heary liberal panty-waists, or something.

Ditto to What Exit said. I think we can all agree that while this “vicarious sentiment” may be an interesting literary device, it’s not at it’s best use on a message board.

At first, yes, no doubt there’ll be a flurry of accusations, just as there was a flurry of references to the ads when they first began running. People got over it, though, and rarely mention them any more. My suspicion is that calling people a troll will also simmer down, though it will still be overused.

First you call me a troll. Then you say you weren’t calling me a troll, just dishonest. Now this is your retraction.

Apology accepted.

And one more time with feeling:

There was no ill will or deceptive intent. I have clarified the situation and apologized (even before it became an issue). What else would you have of me?

I think the post to which you refer could very accurately describe how one of those victims’ family members feel…and justifiably.

Roger!

And thank you for the welcome.

I guess you’ll be glad to hear that, according to the autopsy report, he lived for 52 minutes after the first bomb fell.

As I was saying, from the CNN linked to above:

Worrying about whether people are gleeful or sober over Zarqawi’s death is completely absurd, compared to the issue of whether they should be using missiles to assassinate people.

I understand and again apologize. However, and at the risk of hi-jacking, if clarity and precision are at issue; let’s all be clear and precise. I did not pose as anyone’s parent per se; and especially not Nick Berg’s parent. My parent and son were wholly mythological and my only mistake was not so indicating, which I soon thereafter amended. If that is a bannable offense, then indeed I will avoid it. But I don’t think I’m being charged with the correct crime.

Apparently Zarqawi was also a paedophile. His second wife was 13 when he married her, and became pregnant when 15. Zarqawi himself was 38 when he married the 13 yo child.

Anyone know if that is sicko or cultural?

He was a mean SOB, and I should feel guilty for dancing, but I don’t.

Certainly skeevy by Western standards, but hardly pedophiliac. A pedophile is attrtacted to pre-pubescent children. By thirteen, most girls have started developing their secondary sexual characteristics, and would no longer appeal to a pedo.
