For what it’s worth, Jean-Luc Godard used to say that the only legitimate way to criticize a movie was to make another movie.
Alanis hasn’t been relevant for a while but this is a nice little piece of work. Maybe she’s rediscovering herself after a period of much the same kind of pop inanity she’s deconstructing here.
I know I’m probably missing the point of this video completely but all I’ve come away with from it with is the idea that, wow, Alanis Morissette is smokin’ hot.
Why is it that I am only coming to this realization now, I wonder.
Oddly, I had the same reaction you did, Clockwork And Candy. She looked really good in that. I’ve never found her even remotely attractive before. Then again, she doesn’t look dour and potentially smelly in this video.
I thought it was pretty funny precisely because it does sound like every other Alanis song. It sort of reminded me of when Tori Amos does a cover of some song and makes it sound exactly like every other Tori Amos song, and somehow this is “brilliant” and “breathes new life into the original!” when it’s really just lazy.
I love you for saying this. Apparently criticizing Tori Amos is just Not Done.
As for Alanis, I can’t watch this at work, and my connection at home won’t be of much use either, but considering how much I despise the original, I don’t think it’s too much of a loss.
I did find Alanis strangely attractive for the short time she appeared in Dogma.
I thought it was funny as both making fun of the atrocious “My Humps” song as well as self-parody. The running mascara and slashing the pillow… hilarity.
This is hilarious, and I agree with Clockwork And Candy and CaerieD about her looking hot in this video. Never thought I’d say that about Alanis Morissette.
