Alas, Smith...

RIP Mel Smith

British actor, comedian and film director Mel Smith died yesterday at the age of 60.

It tanked at the box office, but one of my favorite films Morons from Outer Space, was directed by him. Thanks for that laugh, Mr. Smith.

He was The Albino in The Princess Bride.
I’ve always thought that was a wonderful character - he stole the scene for the few moments he was on the screen.

Gerald the Gorilla mourns tonight.

I thought The Tall Man was a great comedy.

These sketches were always my favourite.

I only found out in his obits that he and Griff Rhys-Jones founded Talkback, one of the most successful British tv production companies. No Mel, no QI! Check the Wiki list of programmes they’ve made.

A sad day for us who remember a clever comedian and a fine actor.
