I’ve got to admit - I hate being in St. Louis, and I have historically disliked all their sports teams. I still dislike all their sports teams; I am disappointed when the Rams don’t sell out at home because I don’t get to watch them lose 43-3; I cheer when the Blues fade down the stretch; I (holy shit) root for the Reds and the Cubs? Unbelievable. And I don’t much care for the Atlanta Hawks either.
Yet in my third summer of being stuck watching the stupid Cardinals, I have been incessantly and never-endingly impressed by one hitter.
…and he’s only 30. I wonder why nobody talks about Albert breaking Bonds’ record (erm the seasonal one)-true, A-Rod has a 60 HR lead on him at the same age, but Albert has always been the better hitter.
But you have to love the St. Louis Spiritsof the old American Basketball Association, or at least respect the guts of their owners. When the NBA absorbed several ABA teams, the Silna brothers agreed not to make waves if the other owners simply gave them a piece of their future TV revenues – forever. That deal is estimated to have earned the Silwas about $200 million over the past 30 years.
As for Albert, he’s a phenomenal player and a classy human being. But I fear his injuries will eventually catch up with his talent.
I can’t tell, from the article you, linked to what the “event” actually is. It’s not very enlightening for someone who, like me, hadn’t even heard of it before.
