Is it V O as in Victor Orange. or V 0 as in Victor Zero?
Is Alberto a real guy or a product of some corporation?
Why does this shampoo work better on my hair for $1.49 or less a bottle than the $12 bottles ? But I want the expensive stuff because I have been snickerconditioned by the Hair Care Peoples & Their Hypnotic Adverts That Lure Me To Crave Long, Bouncy, Shiny-Shiny Hair and a Come Hither Look …yeah…could happen…with the next bottle of Whatever Is New…comes along.
WHY WHY WHY WHY???
Thank you for reading my reasoned and thought provoking post.
Because all the chemicals used in any shampoo, from the ultra-cheap to the exclusive salon brands that cost twenty bucks for a tiny little bottle are dirt cheap and come from the same few chemical companies. There is no reason that expensive shampoo should work better, and in fact it doesn’t. The quality of the formulation and the particular ingredients in a shampoo are important, but you’ll find both poor products and excellent ones at any price point.
The expensive stuff smells better. I can’t use shampoo or conditioner that doesn’t smell good, because then my hair smells funny all day. If it’s really cheap and stinky, it gives me a headache. So I’ll spend a little bit more to get something that smells good.
I like Aussie, because it smells good, and it’s cheap. Well, most of it smells good–they have a couple of things that are kind of nasty.
Of course there were VOs 1, 2, 3, and 4. Remember “Gee, Your Hair Smells Terrific?” It took them a long time to get to that point. First came “Holy Hell, Did You Roll in Crap?” which was followed by, “Mom, Did You Make Cabbage for Dinner?”
Only after many missteps such as these did we end up with the gloriously scented Farrah hair that only GYHST could provide.
Bought in 1954-55, they registered the trademark. The trademark site says they claim the product was in use since 1939. The chemist for the company was named Alberto. I’ll try to do some more searching.
