Madman Across the Water

Honkey Chateau

Goodbye Yellow Brick Road (already mentioned)

Caribou

Captain Fantastic and the Brown Dirt Cowboy

Rock of the Westies

Depeche Mode - Violator
The Sisters of Mercy - Floodland
The Cure - Disintegration (even South Park recognises this in the MechaStreisand episode)

If I only could take three albums to a deserted island, I´d take these.

London Calling - The Clash
Fresh Fruit for Rotting Vegetables - Dead Kennedys

Warren Zevon - Sentimental Hygiene

Bob Dylan - Blood on the Tracks

Neil Young - Rust Never Sleeps

I was going to include Goodbye Yellow Brick Road in my list, as it is, quite possibly, my favorite album of all time, but I honestly can’t stand, “Dirty little girl”, for some strange reason. I’ve managed to be able to listen to it, from time to time, so perhaps it’s not a bad song, it just kind of grates on my nerves enough that I didn’t mention it above.

Two more I’ve thought of:

The Cure - The head on the door
Peter Gabriel - So

~V

You liked “The telephone is ringing, is that my mother on the phone”? Otherwise I agree.

My picks for your abuse:

Boomtown Rats - The Fine Art of Surfacing
King Crimson - In the Court of the Crimson King
Queen - A Night at the Opera
Tom Waits - Rain Dogs
Pixies - Doolittle
Sonic Youth - Daydream Nation

“The Red Elvises - Live”
“Liquor in Front” by the Reverend Horton Heat
I’m going to butcher thier name, but Anthinaum’s self tittled (i.e. only) album is really good.
“Bleach” by Nirvana
“Rum Sodomy and the Lash,” as well as “Red Roses for me” both by the Pogues
“Core” by Stone Temple Pilots
“Pablo Honey” by Radiohead
“Post” by Bjork
“Magazine Dream” by Matt Hole and the HotRod Gang
The Roadhouse Rebels’ self tittled album

Jeff Buckley - Grace
Pink Floyd - Meddle
Meatloaf - Bat Out of Hell
Chris Isaac - Heart Shaped World
Lyle Lovett - Pontiac
Cowboy Junkies - The Trinity Session

Old 97s - Too Far To Care
Rufus Wainwright - Poses
Brave Combo - Polkasonic

I’ll second the nomination of Lyle Lovett - Pontiac and add Joshua Judges Ruth and Road to Ensenada

Others already named that I would have listed, but will “me, too” instead: Nina Simone, (you could add her entire catalog) Fishbone, Allman Brothers and Miles Davis.

BeatlesHard Day’s Night, Revolver
Crooked FingersBring on the Snakes
David GrayWhite Ladder
MobyPlay

me too’s to Blood on the Tracks, Is this It, Graceland, The Blue Album, and Sgt. Pepper’s

Hmm… strictly speaking, I could make a long list of mediocre albums that fit the category! I can think of numerous albums that have no bad songs, but don’t have any great songs either. I mean, I rarely hated any of Journey’s songs, but I never liked a Journey album enough to buy one.

I mean, I sort-of liked every song on Asia’s “Alpha” album. Every song on that album was either very good, pretty good, or pleasantly forgettable. On the other hand, I HATE two tracks on the Beatles’ “Revolver.” Fact remains, I consider “Revolver” one of the best albums ever made, but haven’t even thought much about Asia in several years.

So, an album with no bad songs isn’t the same as an album with only great songs.

If I limit myself to albums on which I genuinely like every track, in no special order, there’s

  1. “Close to the Edge” by Yes (just 3 very loooong songs!)

  2. Enya’s “Watermark”

  3. King Crimson’s “Discipline” (the ONLY Crimson album I’ve ever liked in its entirety)

  4. Black Sabbath’s “Paranoid”

  5. “The Notorious Byrd Brothers”

  6. “Deep Purple in Rock”

  7. “Who’s Next”

  8. Pink Floyd’s “Animals”

there is way too many to mention but here are some:

The Strokes - Is this it
Smashing Pumpkins - Siamese Dream
Radiohead - The Bends AND OK Computer
White Strips - White Blood Cells
