Albums with Orange Covers.

I have a friend. She’s very nice. She’s also quite smart, while being particularly stupid in that way that many of us (including myself) are.

Several days ago now, we were talking about a concert we are going to see in November, and she mentioned that she had bought one of their CDs in preparation for it. When asked which one it was, she replied “the orange one”.

Under normal circumstances, this would just be passed off as a forgetful moment, and forgotten in a week. But sometimes, things just hang around. And this has been one of them. Every CD we’ve talked about (there are a group of us involved in these discussions) has become either “orange” or “not orange”. No names.

Unfortunately, the vast majority of the CDs have been “not orange”, and I would like to change that. So I ask for your help. I would like to present her a list of choices for new listening, the only thing that I ask is that the CD/Vinyl/Cassette be mostly orange in colour.

I have already on the list:

Muse - Origin of Symmetry
Nine Inch Nails - Broken
Garbage - 2.0
Steffy - The Orange Album
KJ Stone - In Different Voices
Deep Purple - Bananas
and
Annuals - Be He Me

That last one is touch and go, it’s not really all that Orange. But I leave it here as a sort of base level.

For the record, the Muse CD was the one that she bought.

So if you fine people of the internet could help me out with names of albums (links are not required, but appreciated), I would be eternally* grateful.

*For varying values of eternity.

The cover of REM - Green is ironically, orange.

Evangelicals - So Gone. An obscure, noisy Flaming Lips-esque group. Hello Jen, I’m A Mess Again is my favorite track.

Three Easy Pieces – Buffalo Tom
Monster – R.E.M.
Streetcore – Joe Strummer and the Mescaleros

Louder Than Bombs - The Smiths

Pet Shop Boys Very

This early Al Stewart album is definitely Orange.

Two Against Nature - Steely Dan (the CD itself, not the cover)

Whatever and Ever Amen by Ben Folds Five has some orange parts. (The photos of the band members are orange.)

The cover of Led Zeppelin’s Houses of the Holy is largely orange.

Just wanted to point out that this album is awesome.

They are all awesome… thanks.

This was bugging me, because I thought I remembered some orange covers, and of course when I checked they weren’t orange at all! (Except for R.E.M. - Green which was already mentioned.) So I had to browse through my CDs. My wife says I’m colorblind so many of these may be a loose interpretation of the word orange. And many look slightly different on my computer screen than they did in real life.

Enjoy!

Joe Jackson - Big World (mostly orange)

Bonne Musique Zydeco - Smokin’ Zydeco

The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill

Freddie Hubbard and Woody Shaw - The Eternal Triangle

Pink Martini - Sympathique

Clara Rockmore - The Art of the Theremin

Bryan Ferry / Roxy Music - Street Life / 20 Greatest Hits

Toad the Wet Sprocket - Fear

Richard and Linda Thompson - Shoot out the Lights

Les Triomphes de Nana Mouskouri (orange background)

The Offspring - Smash

Chanticleer - Wondrous Love

Suzanne Vega - 99.9 F

Most of the cover of the Original Cast Recording of Avenue Q is orange. TheWikipedia page has a picture of the playbill on it- the album cover is that, minus the “Playbill Golden Theatre” bit at the top and the white border. I would find a picture of the album, except that I really should have gone to bed 10 minutes ago.

Stevie Wonder has one. I think it’s Fulfillingness’s First Finale. Or something like that.

Wendy Carlos’ Clockwork Orange - which ironically is more white

Meat Loaf seems to like orange a lot for his covers. Bat Out of Hell and Couldn’t Have Said It Better are two examples.

The classic “Songs in the key of life” is quite orange and was the first album I thought of when I saw the thread title:

Tangerine Dream’s Book of Dreams seems to have a Giant Tangerine on the back cover.

If that counts.

Split Enz Time and Tide has a nice orange sunset scene.
Acker Bilk The seven Ages of Acker Bright orange photo frames around rather odd B&W pics.
Crowded House Woodface
Goldenhorse Riverhead

The Acker Bilk was from my parent’s collection, the rest are all rather good.

I remember Talking Heads:77 as being bright orange, but the pictures I’ve found on line make it look more reddish.
