Help me identify this album cover.

Time frame: Early to mid 1980s.

Genre of music: I’m guessing rock or post-punk.

Description: The album cover was very hippy/surreal looking. It had one or two people on the cover, and one of them (a young woman, I think) was wearing really weird glasses. Around the lenses there were flowers or plastic rays or something. I think she (or the other person on the cover) was holding a strange string instrument, like a long oriental guitar or something.

I could have *sworn *it was a **Sonic Youth **album. But when I googled their album covers it did not come up.

Any ideas?

Xtc? I forget the title, and I believe it has more than 2 people… And there are no girls
But it is one of the most famous covers of that era and it is psychedelic.

Oranges and Lemons is the title.

That is virtually nothing like what the OP was describing…so you are probably correct!

Nope… this was an actual photo of actual people.

I can totally picture it, the girl is holding an autoharp. Carpenters? Jefferson Starship? Something from Elton John?

Nope, it was Dr Funke’s 100% Natural Good Time Family Band Solution. Sorry…unless that’s what you were thinking of too. Of course, I still swear I can see a real album cover where the girl is holding an autoharp.

The Dukes of Stratosphear (XTC pseudonym) from 1984 is along those lines.

Sorry to resurrect this thread, but I found it! And completely by accident.

So this evening I was listening to the album Evol by Sonic Youth on CD. The CD contains a multipage insert. I have never opened the insert, and decided to peruse it.

The pic I recalled is behind the lyrics for the song Starpower.

The reason you all had trouble finding the album cover is because I royally screwed up the description in the OP. The person in the pic (Thurston Moore?) is not wearing glasses. The “flowers or plastic rays” I recall were his fingers! :smack:

Apparently the song was released as a single on 7" and 10" vinyl, and the pic was the album cover. And that’s what I must have seen.

Good song and good pic, BTW.

You confused eyes drawn on someone’s hands for glasses and their fingers as ‘flowers or plastic rays or something’.

Next time you come back 4 years later, bring mushrooms for all of us.

At least you got the band right.

That is both very funny and very true more often than not!

What’s 10" vinyl?

A ten-inch vinyl record. ETA: Whoops, or did I miss a 10-inch 78 joke in there?

Requisite link.

Exactly what I expected. Though I suspect the record referenced would be shellac, not vinyl.

I was “playing” stupid but went too far by leaving out the smiley. Bad dog.

I also had to click to see if that’s what was being linked to. And it was.

I had a feeling I was being whooshed…
