Alcatraz starts tonight. Anybody watching?

Have you noticed that Ray, the bar owner/uncle of hot detective, who was a guard at Alcatraz in SF before opening the bar in the same city, has a deeper Chicago accent than Rod Blagojevich?

Did they really know anything or was it just conjecture?

The fact that everyone just assumes it’s time travel is what’s making me think that it’s not time travel at all.

Sam Neil was actually looking for seismic activity. I got the impression that he was expecting some kind of small quake or something when the person “arrives” from the past. The nerd guy mentions that there was some activity along a fault line, but nothing out of the ordinary for that fault line. So the Sam Neil’s theory seems to be a bust.

On a completely separate note: I know there are a lot of Jim Butcher fans on this board. Doesn’t hot cop lady (Sarah Jones) seem to be the embodiment of Karrin Murphy in the Dredsen books? Short, feisty, blond and cute is how Harry describes her many times. If they ever try to make a movie or another TV show, Sarah Jones would be the spot-on casting choice.

Apparently the Chicago accent is identical to the Daly City accent. Wonder if Dennis Farina was auditioned for the part that Robert Forster got.

I couldn’t stop yelling at my tv when ladycop actually threw away her gun, phone and keys, then handcuffed herself to the dumpster because the bad guy told her to. And then, for some reason, the big guy is blaming himself? Wtf? He’s the only reason they had a chance to save the kid.

The way they keep going on about having blood drawn in the flashbacks, I wonder if it’s not some sort of cloning experiment gone off the rails.

Yeah… I’m out. The excessively-delicate way the 63s are being handled (as opposed to, say, shooting them on sight) is getting on my nerves.

This is a TV trope, hardly new to Alcatraz. Yes, IRL cops never do this, but they always do it in TV land.

Shooting them on sight doesn’t help solve the mystery of where they’ve been, why they’re back, etc.

True, but pursuing that mystery is taking a backseat to preventing the 63s from committing more robberies, assaults, kidnappings and killings. I can understand if Hauser and Banerjee are more cold-bloodedly concerned with the mystery than the mayhem, but there’s no excuse for ladycop to play along.

Well, to a point, sure. Usually when one cop tosses his gun away, either he’s got a backup gun, or a partner is maneuvering into position behind the bad guy, or something. I can accept that in TV-land.

But in this case she was solo, no backup, and while she had another gun, she couldn’t get to it. This was basically an open invitation to be murdered by the bad guy.

Other than her boss constantly reminding her to bring them in alive (unless there’s flat out no other way). And she doesn’t like it, so I don’t really think it’s as big a gripe as it’s being made out to be. Her and Hurley were ready to walk over that whole child killer mess when the boss was considering just waiting for him to bring the body back.

I dunno… an Amber Alert gets casually (and improbably) cancelled… a bank robber takes hostages and rather than let a sniper take him out, ladycop sneaks into the bank to sneak him back out… Plus the reluctance to widely distribute pictures of the convicts as soon as they are identified. It’s not the 63s the good guys are in conflict with, but conventional law enforcement, and freezing them out is taking up too much of the show’s time and my patience is exhausted. I’m out.

Did this air on the East Coast tonight? I think the Daytona 500 stopped it.

If not, did(will) it air on the West Coast? If not, when will it air?

Nope, thanks to the jet fuel fire they’ve blown past the West Coast prime time window too. Nothing on fox.com about a rescheduled airing. Hopefully what was supposed to be tonight’s show airs next week and they can catch up with the regular schedule by eliminating a repeat down the line. But the new Kiefer Sutherland series is taking over the Alcatraz timeslot next month, so I wouldn’t be surprised if they shoehorn in the missing week on a Saturday night. Hopefully it’ll be announced ahead of time and someone will post about it here.

Due to tonight’s Daytona 500 race, #alcratraz is preempted. Don’t miss 2 back-to-back all-new episodes next Monday (3/5).

House fans have to wait until March 19th for their missing episode.

As of two days ago, the new episode is streaming online, folks.

It was pretty good, but nothing amazing.

Kind of like the show. I’m disappointed in the show. It had a great cast and a lot of potential. It is most likely canceled at this point, too.

I had to grab it off the internets. On Demand kept throwing up a second copy of the 2/20 episode instead of this one. I had no idea there were issues with the broadcast, I just thought someone at On Demand was fucking up (wouldn’t be the first time).

I noticed that Mr. Ali appears to have shortened his monstrously lengthy and uncommon first name to something more manageable (though still not common), lol.

I’ve got both of last night’s episodes taped(DVR’ed) and have watched the first one.

For what it is worth, it’s the best episode they’ve had. Two brothers have come back from the past and break into Alcatraz to find some gold. Sounds dumb, but a really good one. Maybe the only good one to air so far.

Haven’t seen the second one, yet.

I like this show.

Does anyone else get the feeling that the writers wrote the first season without really having the backstory in mind? It seems that every week that they don’t get cancelled they add a little more of it, but still don’t know where to go. I don’t think they have a clue yet about the blood drawing.
