Trebec, in some short promo for Jeopardy, mentions something about having to do the show standing up. What I can’t figure out is: what the hell is stopping him from sitting on a stool? The audience at home never sees him at his podium anyway. They only show him walking back to it after the interviews. I can’t remember the context of the promo, and why he thinks it makes a difference whether he’s sitting or standing. 
Not too long ago I posted a thread calling attention to how Trebek’s entrance from behind that see-through screen bears a significant resemblance to the Tro-lo-lo guy and his arrivial from behind a similar screen. I was roundly rebuked for it.
I won’t comment on his standing beyond saying I agree with you that it’s a tempest in a teacup.

Jeopardy is a man’s game. It’s not like Millionaire.
Where did I say I had a problem with it? He’s the one who brought it up in the promo, and apparently thinks it makes a difference to someone.

Maybe it was just a prop, like Larry King’s desk mic.
The promo asks people to get tickets and be in the Jeopardy! audience. The standing thing is merely a rhetorical device —“I have to stand through a show, but you can sit in these plush, comfy seats here.”
Doesn’t Drew Carey use one, too?

You’re misunderstanding the promo. Trebek tooks about being on stage during the entire show and never getting to watch it from the audience’s perspective. It has nothing to do with standing versus sitting.
But to answer your question: he stands because that’s what game show hosts do. Aside from the previously mentioned Millionaire, I can’t think of any hosts that sit.
Bill Cullen used to sit, but then he had a reason.

OK, I saw the promo again and Trebek does talk about not being able to sit. But then he ends with “The view is pretty good from up here!” I think it’s just random rambling to segue into promoting Jeopardy tickets.
