Alexander the Great medical history

OK, I know that people now think he got capped by a case of West Nile Fever, so everything I can google about his medical history deals with his death…but I seem to remember that some doctors were thinking that he had some sort of syndrom that caused him to cock his head oddly just to be able to see in front of him [or something like that…] due to the apparent detail that every depiction of him has him holding his head in the same position. ANybody able to let me know what the name of this syndeom might be so I can look it up further?

Don’t have anything to offer, but might it be some neurological disorder stemming from the fact that the guy drank like a fish? Now granted, he died pretty young, which wouldn’t allow for that much damage to his body, but reading some biographies about Alexander the Great it seems that he was very partial to engaging in drinking contests, and would spend many nights drinking straight through the night

I know that Hephastion had some sort of fever/illness going on; Alexander and doctors told him not to drink, he did anyway and died that night. So I wouldn’t be surprised if it came from all the excessive drinking going on.

Alexander the Great suffered from epilepsy…

No, not epilepsy nor alcholism, it was bleph-something, a known eye condition - that much I sort of remember. :frowning:

ha! found it=)
