The “Truth|takes|time” thing got me to thinking… maybe she got out to help them catch Sloan.
The end of this episode REALLY bothered me. I mean, come on, Dixon accidently shot Emily. Ok, I can buy that. But, he couldn’t chamber another freakin’ round and take a shot at Sloan? Sloan was kneeling right there beside her. Shoot the bastard, Dixon!
And then Sloan, Irena, and Sarke all jump on a helicopter and start to fly away. Again, NOBODY thinks to, I dunno, SHOOT AT THEM??!! You’ve all got guns in your hand. Take a gd shot! You might hit one of them, seeing how it was an open sided helicopter. And where the hell was the rest of the “team?”
It really reeked of “let’s let the bad guys get away, so we can continue the story arc.” I’ll willingly suspend disbelief, but only for so long.
I was really annoyed by that, too. He had a clear shot of Sloane when he was kneeling over her, and he also could have taken a shot at Derevko and Sloane when they resumed their race to the helicopter. What was Dixon thinking? :dubious:
I’m really wondering how it happens that the CIA missed a receiver in Irina’s earrings. One wonders if Sydney will turn them in to the CIA since they obviously employ technology well in advance of the CIA’s.
I about yelled at Dixon through the TV “Take the shot!”
Is it just me or has Amy Irving really matured into her looks. I remember her from “The Competition” and contrasting her looks there with how she looks in “Alias” I’m amazed at how striking she is. I’m also amazed at Emily’s ability to regenerate a severed finger. I was distracted in every one of her scenes waiting to see if she had a left ring finger and in the scene where she hugs Irina, by gum there it was!
Otto, they didn’t miss a receiver, they missed a transmitter, and probably a passive one at that. I.e., there’s nothing to detect until it activates itself.
No, the transmitter that was missed was in Irina’s boobs, and didn’t we all have a good laugh at how exactly Jack “injected” her with it. The earrings contain a receiver since they were picking up (presumably) Irina’s Morse code transmission. And even if the CIA missed the electronics on a sweep of the earrings, you’d think that while they were busily filing off all the edges and pointy bits they’d have visually noticed circuitry or the little bulbs that made the jewels light up.

The transmitter was in Irina’s uterus, not her boobs. They just zapped her on her chest. There is no evidence that the earrings picked up a message, as those 15 (or so) letters could have been pre-recorded on a tiny chip. Either way, it’s still a good lesson on “suspension of disbelief”. A spy show that displays incredible feats of technology shouldn’t suprise you when they display incredible feats of technology.
Is that some sort of bizarre single shot gun (in ALIAS? A single shot gun?) and why didn’t he take the damn shot?
(Actually, why didn’t Sidney shoot her mom in the leg after she got the shoulder? Still wouldn’t have killed her if that’s what she was worried about.)
OK, I’ll grant that there’s a possibility that the earrings could simply be a tool for pre-programming a message. I can’t imagine many circumstances where such technology might actually be useful (“Oh, I’ve been captured, let me program 150 or so dots and dashes into my earring without anyone noticing what I’m doing and then drop it somewhere again without anyone noticing and hope that someone on my side finds it”…and doesn’t anyone who’s ever lost an earring know how easy it is to find it again even with the super-spy technology) but I’ll grant the possibility. There’s suspension of disbelief and then there’s the mind-warp required to accept that the freaking Central Intelligence Agency would take the time to file down the sharp edges on a pair of earrings but somehow miss that those selfsame earrings come equipped with tiny lighbulbs and beepers and a device capable of receiving those 150 dots and dashes along with a way to input them.
ALIAS is a great show. It’s quality, even in the weakest of episodes, surpasses almost everything else on television. That is a great reason to keep watching and if people aren’t watching yet it is a great reason to start.
It does take an incredible amount of suspension of disbelief…but no more than a typical Bond movie…or Law and Order at times!!! Not everything can be realistic on a show where the main character is a spy with 2 spy parents and a best friend who’s not herself, but it makes it no less enjoyable.
The point being…I don’t watch ALIAS for a realistic portrayal of the inner workings of the CIA, if I had wanted that I would have watched the Agency, and I didn’t. I watch ALIAS for it’s campy SPY v. SPY and I couldn’t be happier with how well it performs in this capacity.
I was watching for that during the entire episode. It seemed like her left hand was always just out of the shot, but I did catch the regenerated finger in one of the scenes near the end.
I noticed the ring finger too! I was actually paying attention to all her jewelry (love the little daisy necklace) and then I saw the wide gold ring and thought “Gee, that’s a nice ring. WAIT A SECOND!! SHE SHOULDN’T HAVE THAT FINGER!”
Mr Vena, an occasional watcher, ahd to be filled in and all he had to say was EEeeeewww.
Emily dead?
Does no one here ever watch a soap opera anymore?
Later we will find out she was intentionally shot, with a special poison that makes everyone thinks she is dead…or it wasn’t Emily it was really her twin sister Amile’…or it was planned all along when she met Syd before going back to Tuscany…or…or…
Alias is still one of the best shows on TV currently - even if there is the occasional - ummm - even if there is the consistant unrealistic plot twists and action sequences.
I don’t remember his name off hand, but “gadget man’s” quirk of mini-stutter and not getting to the point is starting to annoy me…
Marshall is both cool and funny, and some people think he may turn out to be Rambaldi.
Anyway, I think Dixon’s inability to take a shot is because he realized what he had done, and he was in shock.
I laughed my head off when they had the discussion about the passive transmitter Jack “planted” on Irina without her knowledge. That may have been the funniest moment on TV this year, just because of how Jack has been portrayed during the series.
