Alias Premiere - Anybody watch it? <SPOILERS>

Am I really the first to post a thread?

Do any other Dopers watch the show, or is everybody into the Sopranos? (we don’t get HBO, so I don’t watch it…I may read the DVDs sometime, though to see what the fuss is about)

Anyway, thought? I enjoyed it, but felt that it was more of a “set up” episode than anything else. It spent so much time resolving cliffhangers and setting up the tensions for this season that it was more of a transition in the overall story, IMHO.

However:

  • I liked the resolution of Vaughn’s predicament - but what was Khasinau going to do to Vaughn before Syd intervened?

  • I liked how Dixon made up with Syd (not sure I buy that Sloane would accept Jack’s excuse for Syd, though - seemed a bit too pat)

  • I found Will’s getting out of his squeeze too phony - like he’d really mention SD-6 again to reporters, and like Sloane wouldn’t kill him anyway? Come on…between Will and Jack’s excuse for Syd, it feels like Sloane is not the Big Bad he is meant to be. It’s a classic problem with bad guys who stay on the scene too long - we need to believe they are truly bad, yet not bad enough to be able to stop our heroes…

As for Syd’s mom, what complaints could there be about Lena Olin? Hmmmm…Lena Olin. Her turning herself in could be interesting depending on how it is used…

Your thoughts?

The letters highlighted in this show (in the city names) were P, C and L

I’m going to pay attention this year and see if they spell anything.

(maybe the 1st letter in each show spell something)

Brian

I was thinking the same thing. Though since I miss the show half the time because they pre-empt it or move it around, I probably will never find out.

I’m a little lukewarm. I figured I would be for two reasons:

  1. The season finale just buried her in too much crap. Vaughn is dead(?), Will knows, her mom is there, Dixon knows, Khasinau is gonna kill her(?), well good golly-gee. I don’t know why they have to do this lately, with finales. It forces a change in the elements of the show that originally made it attractive to me.

  2. Now Will knows everything? That changes the best aspect of the show. I knonw there’s a limit to how long you can stretch that out, but the three-way tension between SD-6, CIA, and Will’s “investigation” was one of the most exhilirating and tense television plotlines in my recent memory. I think the finale blew that up, and I’m concerned about where they go from here.

  3. That other great balancing act, Sloane/Dixon’s suspicions, is turned on its ear by this latest go-round. They’re becoming pretty dense, especially “evil genius” Sloane. How many free passes will the Bristows get? I hope this is resolved by my pet plot secret, Sloane is really Sid’s uncle or something, and is committed to secretly helping Sid find her mother. Wait and see!

I agree that I’ll have to wait and see what the next few eps look like, that this was really a tying up of the herculean gesticulations of the season finale, but really now, can’t you trust us to be anxious for a few months without the overkill?

What is all this talk of letters? I missed something.

just turning on the email notification, scuse me.

How did it end? I had it set to be taped, and apparently the football game ran long.

I saw up to where Syd’s mom got the briefcase from her and said something that was supposed to be meaningful about truth and ran off what happened after that?

Amarinth, I don’t know how to create one of those SPOILER boxes, but here goes:

Mom leaves with the briefcase, saying something like “the truth is hard” - basically leaving it open that perhaps all is not as it appears to be (and maybe Mom isn’t all that bad?). Cut to the therapist’s office, where Syd cracks the door and asks for time, in tears. Therapist says, sure, Syd describes talking at Sloane’s wife’s funeral (complete with flashback of her eulogy - Syd likens Emily to a mother when she (Syd) really needed one, meaningful looks from Jack and Sloane - you get the idea). Then, right after the eulogy, Syd is informed that her mother walked into the CIA and turned herself in, and that she was in custody. Now Syd doesn’t know what to do. Previews indicate that there is a conversation where Syd accuses Mom of being a murderer and evil…

Question:

Whatever happened to that CIA agent (the one who is friends with Vaughn)? So … is he okay? He looked to be pretty badly injured, but they never came back to him.

SPOILER!!

According to Ain’t it Cool News, Wiese is killed, conveniently given that the actor is going to be in a series on NBC at some point…

I have a farfetched idea that might be a spoiler:

Like the movie Face/Off, it appeared that kasineau was about to swap faces between Vaughn and another guy (did you notice the scalpel cut across the forehead?). I think he succeeded in making the switch, and that “Vaughn” is no longer Vaughn!!

Maybe not, but I’m keeping my eyes on that guy!

Thanks for the spoiler Wordman. Notice how even people spoiling this episode, which already showed, bothered to use the tags?

Sorry SmackFu - Notice how in earlier posts to this thread I indicate I don’t know how to create a Spoiler Box, and I label everything I share as a Spoiler before I share it? Lighten up.

Okay, so I went to About this Message Board and looked up how to do spoilers - I will use this vbcode from now on; but I still practiced good spoiler etiquette before, and you still need to lighten up, SmackFu…
