Alien: Earth

I think it was the brother being all, “Hypothetically if one wanted to steal the boat to escape this island how would one do that? Hypothetically.” Earlier.

With only one episode left I have to say the end songs make me cringe every time. Good episodes that end well then they tack on some off tone crappy rock song that just needs to not be there.

I thought “The Mob Rules” was a good choice. They listened to fools, and now the Mob (of killer aliens) is going to rule.

Lyrically, the song choices are more relevant than you would find in most shows but I think the genre is putting some people off.

Yeah, they fit the plot but not the mood.

I don’t like the music at the end of the episodes, but i can’t articulate exactly why. I think it has something to do with it breaking the 4th wall. It’s like the director or show runner is stealing the Aux cord to make me listen to these deep cuts he discovered.

James Gunn builds the music into the storytelling in his movies and it works great. This feels like it just comes in out of left field every week. Maybe there’s a cool subtext in the lyrics for the music nerds that I’m just not getting.

Anyways, heard on a podcast a theory that I thought was interesting. They posit that Atom Eins, Boy’s main henchman, might be his father. That he’s been completely subjugated by Boy for some reason and that’s why he has this ruthless loyalty to Boy. Also that Dame might be his mother, though that’s more of a stretch.

They were wondering if this show will feature a secret Synth. The secret Synth is a pretty standard Alien trope and there’s an assumption that this show will feature one eventually. Atom and Dame are really the only humans left that we have any exposure to, so are either of them Synths? If they are, then we’re really going to be running out of humans which probably is a bad idea narratively.

Revealing that either Atom or Dame have a different secret might subvert the trope in an interesting way and give us a twist for the finale.

Dame was married to Arthur and seemed melancholic after he was let go, I would be shocked if it was a synth. To be honest there aren’t enough humans characters to have a secret synth.

Why not Boy himself? He might not even know it.

Me too. I don’t think there’s a secret Synth that would make any narrative sense. But I do expect some kind of big reveal tonight.

Side note, Boy, Dame and Atom are all very quirky names. For the most part everyone in the AU has a traditional name, except these 3. That kind of hints that these folks might be related. Also, Dame essentially betraying Arthur and doing what Boy asks makes sense if she’s his mom. Arthur didn’t act all that shocked that she was more loyal to Boy/Prodigy than him.

The Aliens can sense who is real and who is not. The eggs started hatching when Boy was close.

That was the series finale? Color me underwhelmed.

Season finale, not series.

Or not.

So I guess kinda? I guess him being named “Atom 1” probably should have been a stronger hint.

My guess for Season 2. Yutani tries and fails to take the island because the hybrids control the Aliens and Wendy has that remote mastery of all tech. Under Wendy and the other hybrids, the island becomes a “hermit kingdom” no one can touch. The only way Yutani can achieve parity is by seeking Alien stuff off-planet.

Sounds right.

Feels directionally correct. But for as capable as the Hybrids are, we’ve seen them taken out by one of those electric rifles which we know Yutani uses. And it’s not like any of them are bulletproof. Simply controlling 2 Xenos and 5 Hybrids plus the computers isn’t enough to hold off a determined Yutani. They may need to send more better equipped men, but they’ll crack that egg for sure.

Wendy and the gang apparently killed all the Prodigy soldiers so they are running a skeleton crew.

They left all the Prodigy primaries alive for a reason, presumably they will be critical to something. Presumably they end up partnering with Boy or Kirsh to get reinforcements eventually.

Side note. I’m annoyed that Chekovs Mold Scrubbers never ended up being important.

I’m not sure I liked the idea of Eye Zombie Arthur. What’s animating him? The Eye Monster’s tentacles can move all his limbs directly

Remember, when we first see the eye in the crashed ship it is slumming it in half of a cat. So there is precedent of animating deas things from the beginning.

Remember that humans in this series don’t generally do well when eggs crack.

Of course hybrids prevailing can’t be easy … they have a whole season to fill! And being consistent with the AU it feeds into.

But hint one to me is Boy having used Atom as his cover initially. Top brass being their puppet, their being Eyeball running a Prodigy that has worked out … something…

Throw in - Morrow sounds less loyal to his masters than owned and may be turned. And the stated goal now is not living in isolation but ruling the world. The possibility of a flipped Morrow working with the hybrids and maybe even a synth to take control of W-Y as well is interesting. Recontextualizes what comes next. No longer corporate greed. The next ship is sent by them with humans thought of as not just disposable but a bit contemptible, and the Xenos were not products but allies to be gathered up? This ending up as a supervillains origin story of sorts … probably not but …

Prodigy, as a corporation, is only twenty years old. That is amazing but for a different discussion. I could see Wendy using Prodigy, getting to W-Y, taking it over, and joining the two. Then all commands to find or search for aliens make sense. She might be looking for someone better than humans.

Who made David? Imagine Wendy finding him.

I’m not sure how hard this will be. What do we really know about the AU at least from the shows? Nothing I have seen breaks that timeline but I could be missing something.

Thanks for the discussion!
