It’s no secret that our politics are at odds in most respects— nearly all of them, I would imagine. We don’t see eye-to-eye on things like media slant, or at least the direction it leans. I never took Shodan to be a fool, though. More of an opportunist. Someone who realizes deep down that Trump is an unqualified bozo who’s probably gotten up to some shady shit, but nonetheless heads the party, for better or worse, and even if he accomplishes little during his term, at least he’ll hold off the liberal/Democrat menace for another four years, maybe eight, and steer SCOTUS in the right direction, no pun intended.
So when I read something like “Both sides are not the same in this instance - Democrats are the ones coordinating with the Russians,” at this moment in our history, I think he must be adopting the guise of a fool, for reasons that are unclear. It’s a glib remark from a Fox News commentator, or a Breitbart comment troll. A medium he bathes in, I’m sure, but I thought— hoped, maybe naively— didn’t penetrate all the way.
It would be melodramatic to say I’m saddened, or even disappointed. Guess it’s just my bleeding heart trying to wring out one more drop.
Or a schoolyard: the Trumpist right seems to have taken as its playbook that immortal chunk of 4th-grade wisdom:
I’m rubber
You’re glue
Stuff bounces off me
And sticks to you!!!
It looks as though their best and only strategy is to just look at whatever horror Trump and his minions have perpetrated, erase the names, and write in ‘Hillary’ and ‘Obama’ and ‘Nancy Pelosi’.
The right seems to be testing the theory that humans (progressives, in this case) can actually die of disgust.
Oh bullshit It’s not tenure. He’s mouthing what a lot of Trumpists are thinking and the Dopers are desperate for someone to shout at over it. So he gets to outrage the libtards and they get to shout their outrage. Win-win.
He doesn’t believe it. In fact he pretty much admitted as much earlier. He’s just trolling the liberals who haven’t learned to ignore him.
I’m amazed at the number of people here, most of them long time posters, who bother to engage with partisan hacks like him and the Frothing Phop. Neither of them contribute anything worthwhile to the boards. Plus, they get tiny boners whenever they succeed at derailing a thread with their nonsense.
A little off topic for this pit thread…but you just incriminated yourself here–big time.
(Disclaimer…I hate Trump, too, and am not trying to justify him here.)
But, my dear liberal friends, please learn to recognize what democracy means: there is a fair count of votes, and then the winner wins… even if he’s not a liberal!!!
That word “upset” which you used is more than just a Freudian slip…it really does reveal your mindset. And that scares me.
Trump won the election. He used social media better than Hillary.
And yes, he used Russian computer experts to help him with the social media stuff. Which ought to be illegal, just like, say, using too much money from illegal donations is illegal.
But THE RUSSIANS DID NOT CHANGE THE RESULTS OF THE ELECTION.
They did not “upset” the election. The American people voted freely and fairly.
But you lefties keep complaining about the use of social media in the campaign… and that’s much more scary than whatever the Russians did in their meetings with Trump.
Because you are saying that Democracy is a bad idea.
Your logic is that the people are too easily misled by social media,so they can’t be trusted. Because only a good liberal should be allowed to vote…the rest of the deplorables should be locked out of the process.
I’d rather put up with Trump’s shenanigans with the Russians, before I’ll kneel to your elitism.
You lost.
Get over it.
Now start working on wining the next election.
You know, by using social media.
I don’t think that anyone is saying that “only a good liberal should vote” or anything even remotely close to that. With the exception of you, of course. And I don’t necessarily think that the “deplorables” should be locked up.
I think you’re running a little late. “The Wizard of Oz” doesn’t need your strawman. Nor do we.
The “Trump won - get over it” chestnut is such a wrong assumption on what Anti-Trumpists (not all of whom are <shudder> liberals) believe. They’re most concerned with the litany of crimes, influence peddling, and dealmaking with what conservatives had been labeling as enemies for decades and now can’t wait to collectively suck the cock of.
But I guess paying attention to facts, demanding justice, and keeping track of Trump’s lies is liberal elitism and a bigger danger to this country than selling out to the enemy. Pissing off liberals is the best way to fix the good ol’ USA.
I can’t tell if you’re being serious. Weren’t you the one wringing your hands about how rampant both-sides-ism has caused mistrust in government that will lead in turn to authoritarian rule, requiring widespread violent demonstrations to remedy?
I’m not sure why so many people are so invested in this issue.
What do you think is going to come of this?
Do you think the Mueller investigation is going to uncover treason or something? That Trump promised the Russians something that they have yet to deliver on?
Or is it more likely to uncover some sort of communication between Russia and the Trump campaign where the Russians say “Hey we have dirt on the Hilliary campaign that points to cheating by Hillary with the help of the DNC and DNC operatives during the Democratic primary” and the Trump campaign says “cool, give it to me”
Or do you think it was more like “Hey we have dirt on the Hilliary campaign that points to cheating by Hillary with the help of the DNC and DNC operatives during the Democratic primary. And we’ll give it to you if you commit treason.” And the Trump campaign says “cool, give it to me”?
I mean if the Democrats try to hang Trump for exposing Hillary as a cheater, its not going to do much to harm Trump and its going to make them look stupid.
