This isn’t a rant, though if some of you would like to do so, please, by all means. But I would like a serious answer from a SDMB IT person (if he/she exists).
I mean, why? What is it about this board where people keep getting kicked off, 404 errors abound, pages take minutes to load regardless of connection type, and multiple posts (and threads) are so common that they are unremarked on? Of all the boards I have ever visited on the net, this one is easily, EASILY the worst in regards to seek and load times. Why?
Is it outmoded software? Too few “hookups” (or whatever) for the volume? Too few servers? Are y’all using 2600 baud modems or something?
Whatever it is, it sucks. I try to attract people here (mostly sane, intelligent ones) but they all come back with the “Interesting, but that site’s too damned slow” complaint.
What would it take for y’all to fix it? Monetary donations? Half the audience to just up and leave en masse? 14.4k modems?
Thanks Klaatu. I read under The Pit and it said that this was the place for discussion of the SDMB so I posted this here. Now it’ll likely be moved to a forum that nobody reads.
Actually, complaints and discussion of administration of the SDMB go here; ATMB is “For technical questions and concerns about the SDMB.” I guess complaints about the board’s functioning would probably go here, but the point is that yours isn’t a new complaint, and it’s being worked on as best as possible. The ATMB reference was to point you in the direction of an explanation to your question about why the board is slow.
As has been pointed out, this has been discussed quite a bit in ATMB. However, the REAL reason is so that I can get a couple of moves done in Double Scorpion between thread loads. Since I answered your question (haha) and pointed out where you can get the REAL straight dope, I’m gonna lock this thread.
