I know. It’s just really disappointing. I truly did expect better of at least some of the mods here.
I had to bite my lip when I was writing it to avoid attracting undue attention.
The funny thing is, if Sleeps had really made an ATMB thread about this, I’m pretty sure I would have been one of the first to defend the mods. I feel likely that others would have done similarly.
Either way, I’m pretty sure the thread would be short and sweet and finished. But, because Marley decided to give a response entirely out of proportion (and abuse his powers, I’m not going to stop mentioning that), this thread’s at least going to last as long as Sleeps’s suspension.
Yup. If I saw someone make a post that a mod was harassing them by responding to their comments, I’d call bullshit on it. But to have a viable forum, people *need *to know that they have the option to make accusations against the moderating staff, even ridiculous ones (which will then presumably be dealt with), *without *the fear that they will be smacked down for even making a comment that someone could possibly twist into a suggestion that they will make use of that right to accuse.

Okay, so the main thing I want to address is Marley’s absolute falsehood here:
I think it’s pretty well documented in this thread that he isn’t very good at reading intention (threaten to do what? complain in ATMB where it is allowed? o man I’ve had a good laugh about that for the last week) but I feel this goes beyond being tone deaf to someone’s written word and goes into a bit of intentional stretching of the truth.
I got the auto-issued warning and responded to him. I got back another auto-issued warning telling me to see his PM as to the reason for the 2nd warning (don’t be a jerk). Maybe one of you more experienced mods could help him figure out how to put the reason for the warning right in the auto-issued so he doesn’t need to send extra PMs.
I got the “don’t be a jerk” warning for *daring *to answer him in a way he didn’t like. Here is the screen shot of the PM where you can see the quote from me that he feels is jerky enough for a 2nd warning. For someone who claims they put up with a lot from members without abusing their mod powers, he sure has a reeeeeeally thin skin:

As for why I told him to stop PMing me? I remember reading a thread where someone was complaining about getting PMs from a mod and Marley showed up and said something like “You do realize you PMd me first?” as if that is an explanation of why you’d continue after the conversation is done. That coupled with his hair-trigger “you’re a big ol jerkie!” warning I figured that discussing any of this further was not going to work. Should I have just not answered him and hope that would be all from him? Sure! But who knew he was such a delicate flower that he’d consider that to be a threat to do something I’m allowed to do if I wanted to so therefore it would keep him from doing his job?!? I took gymnastics for 10 years and I don’t even think I could contort myself enough to see the logic in that mess of dubious logic. My hat is off to him for his pretzel twisting abilities, to be sure.
So no, I didn’t throw some big fit for being warned even though I was the one who reported my own post. I told him (politely!) that it would have been nice to have clarification before it went on and on and thanked him for the laughs. Apparently in Marleyland that is some serious freaking out. Why he’d feel the need to try to tell people that lie is something I can’t comprehend.
Anyway, it was only a week and blah blah blah. I knew next to nothing of Marley before this but now I know just how much he can be trusted. Good information.
OK, that warning is flat out cuckoo-bananas. Wow.
It also makes the suspension look kind of, well, insane. While the use of the word “harassment” was clearly meant as a bit of a dig, since it was an obvious reference a previous PM altercation Marley23 had with another poster, it’s pretty darn reasonable not to want any more PMs from a mod who just warned you because he didn’t like the tone of your last PM response.
I get that Sleeps’ attitude is getting on the mods nerves (and as I posted earlier in this thread, I can sympathize), but these actions are simply ridiculous. At the very least, have the stones to say you’re sick of being sassed, so you’re going to start warning people for it. Other boards do it, it’s not the end of the world. But be up front about it.

It also explains this post, where he says he is not going to quote the PMs. Why would he want to, when they clearly show what a bullshit move the suspension was?
I wonder if the cabal of mods who signed off on it were aware of exactly what was said? One can only hope not …

As for that second warning, I don’t even have the words to convey how ridiculous that was.
And yet Sleep’s post still goes unchallenged by mods and mod supporters alike. Pretty cut-and-dried evidence here that Marley overstepped his bounds and abused his power. But he’s already washed his hands of the mess and will not even bother to respond. I did like Cat Whisperer’s theory of how he reacted though, made this thread worthwhile.
