The interesting thing here, to me, is intention.
I don’t think she intended to threaten, but the question is, does *Marley *truly believe she did. If he did, then I understand his decision. Otherwise, it is another case of board over reaction that tends to chase off some of the posters that make the board more interesting.
I can understand that. I know criticism is part of the job, and so is overlooking the sass when people just need to get their two cents in. This was more blatant, especially when it got to the harrassment thing, to the point where I didn’t think putting up with it was a good idea. Whether ‘further PMs will be considered harrassment’ is a threat or a hissy fit, it’s always been the case that being a jerk to the mods in response to a warning is cause for further action.

Taking your criticism to heart, I have re-read your post and considered all your points dispassionately. Unfortunately, I still come to the conclustion that your point is invalid.
Allow me to return the compliment. In the few times I have disagreed with you (this might be the second time) concerning moderation issues, I have thought that you give posters every element of the doubt and moderators zero leeway. I think you have an anti-SDMB moderator bias that colours your statements.
In that different infractions deserve different kinds of actions? Like, not everything deserves a banning? Like, some things get a mod note and some things get a warning?

In that a poster was suspended for not doing that of which she was accused. The length of suspension doesn’t matter if the suspension wasn’t warranted to begin with.

Lol, Sleeps said in a PM to a mod that any more messages from that mod would be considered harassment. That’s ludicrous. Marley has already said that he/she basically had the full backing of the rest of the staff.
I think you’re all letting your personal feelings towards Sleeps blind you. As someone who joined the board about a week ago, on the other hand, it all seems pretty clear to me.
Actually it kind of was, if he really did just respond once. If not full-on jerkishness, then at least a rather silly and overdramatic thing to say. Didn’t deserve a suspension, though, any more than a kid saying “oink” to a cop deserves a baton across the brainpan.
If it were me, I’d have sent her one more PM saying “NYAH! So there!” and been done with it. But I guess that’s why they don’t let me wear the badge.
Do you really think you have ANY perspective to be making any sort of commentary on mod actions. Hell, I’ve been here less than a year and people constantly remind me that I don’t have the history and knowledge of the shenanigans that go on around here.
Having the “backing of the staff” is hardly any sort of endorsement of Marley’s actions.

I think the Turnip’s post below yours more or less wraps up how I feel. If it were me, I’d have just been done with it, but still, she gets suspended for “threats” (being snarky =/= threatening) because **Marley **didn’t like her attitude? When I opened this thread, it was really to inquire about this “threat” business was all about, because I had a hard time believing she threatened anything. He posted the PMs, and I still fail to see the threat. I see her sassing him, and him getting upset. YMMV, IANAMod, and the usual disclaimers.
Edit: I don’t think he and I would call it the same level of dickery, but I agree with the principle of his post.

Sure it is. You’re all directing a lot of hate at Marley, but the fact that Marley has the backing of the staff indicates that it’s likely other moderators would have acted similarly under the same circumstances.
And I disagree. No one in this thread is getting punished for disagreeing with the mods. In other threads I’ve seen where people have disagreed with the mods, no one got punished there, either. But when you’re angry about a decision and you say “any more contact from you is harassment!”? That’s childish. I’ve seen that sort of response in real life and it’s as silly there as it is here. Marley was going to give Sleeps a one day suspension and instead the moderators as a group encouraged him/her to increase that to a week. And here you are getting the rope ready for Marley.
I’ve seen this sort of behavior before. It reminds me of a bunch of children whining because they don’t like a teacher’s decision. I’m glad none of you are moderators if you would allow people to make comments like that in PMs and get away with it.

You think telling a moderator not to contact you any more, and that if they do you will consider it harassment is SASS? I saw the quoted PM from Sleeps, it didn’t look like a joke. As I said in another post, I’ve heard that used against others and against me in real life. It’s never sass. It’s a desperate attempt to get the last word in a losing argument.
