"All right, I'm going to say it...I actually LIKED..."

Wondered if that’d kill me to someone…12 was just so much more FUN than the other two. 11 and 13 took themselves so seriously to premises that are so wildly unbelievable. 12 took it to such a level that it was much for fun to watch.

Actually, a lot of people (myself included) would agree with you on that. I always assumed that 3 was considered the worst of the bunch.

Commando is one the best action films of all time, and I dare anyone to say otherwise.

How can a movie that contains the following exchange be anything but classic?

With this as the kicker:

What? I didn’t know it was uncool if you liked Tommyknockers! One of his better scifi ideas. (although, I prefer his scifi short stories, The Jaunt, The Langoliers and does The Mist count?)

Lost in Space 1998 remake.

But Tremors is a pinnacle of film making, and I challenge naysayers to a duel.

:stuck_out_tongue: Heh! Just read this, and I say, if men can watch tween shows to goggle at the underage female cuties, women can do the same (underage male cuties, unless you go the other way, of course). I blush to admit years ago I watched an anime cartoon with the kids because I had a very disturbing crush on one of the characters…

I’m trying to figure out if you’re serious or if you’re expressing that you’re tired of people claiming to ‘win’ threads. If it’s the latter, I do want to mention that I don’t actually think my post was more worthy than anyone else’s, just that I’m pointing out the vast discrepancy between my opinion (We Built This City is pretty good) and the seeming majority opinion (it’s one of the top 10 worst songs of all time).

Anyway, I thought of a couple more.

Iron Man 2. I went to see it with a friend and had such a great time that I brought my parents and brother back to it just a few days later for a family outing. None of them were at all impressed, and had to go back and watch the original to cleanse themselves. The original is definitely superior, but I thought 2 was a great summer movie, and Mickey Rourke’s character was so much fun, as was Scarlett Johansson’s.

Dani California. Just as good as the Chili Peppers’ previous work in my opinion. I remembered this yesterday while playing it on Rock Band. Such an infectious rhythm and chord progression. Everyone else seems to think it was the moment RHCP well and truly sold out.

Idiocracy
Big Trouble in Little China
Road Warriors

It’s funny how, in these sorts of threads, the appearance of Hudson Hawk is an inevitability. Does anyone really hate it? (I mean apart from hating Andie MacDowell; hatred is a natural result of any movie appearance by her*.) It’s a goofy movie that doesn’t pretend to be otherwise. Maybe it’s not your cup of tea but it’s not the worst movie ever made, and it has a certain cheap and cheerful charm to it.

*I hereby dare anyone to chime in and honestly say they love Andie MacDowell’s acting.

I thought Hudson Hawk was pretty awful.

I like Andie MacDowell.

Maybe I’m just more honest than other people, or perhaps I genuinely have no taste, but here goes:

I liked the Star Wars Holiday Special. (It’s fun trying to decide how many drugs Carrie is on during her scenes.)
I also liked the duo of movies with the ewoks and the chipper little blonde kid. Caravan of Courage and the Battle for Endor.

I liked *both *of the **Jurassic Park **sequels.

Here’s the biggie: I absolutely LOVE Logan’s Run. I don’t care what anyone says, it’s an amazing movie and I love it to death. I even watched the (understandably) short-lived TV series based on it, and I have to say I enjoyed that too.

Short Circuit 1 and 2 are awesome. How can anyone hate on Johnny 5?

Lots and LOTS of people adore these, me included…

Joe

The most I’ve got to contribute is that I liked the Toxic Avenger movies. I only got to three, though.

Seconding:

Big Trouble in Little China
Logan’s Run (and the '70’s TV series)
Voyager
Hudson Hawk
As an aside: I liked and am still totally all about KISS. \m/ Their albums are mostly so-so with one or two hits on each, but their live shows really deliver. Gene Simmons didn’t just create a band. He had a business plan. He’s been quoted as saying that he didn’t want KISS to become the next Beatles, he wanted KISS to become the next coca-cola. And he’s done quite a good job so far, IMO.

There are three other people here who liked The DaVinci Code? That’s two more than I remember last time this sort of thread came up. (I also like Angels and Demons, though I was meh about his other two).

I like Christopher Paolini’s Eragon books. I think the dogpiling on certain websites (I’m looking at you, TvTropes) goes way overboard. Yes, they’ve got their faults. They’ve got their fun, too.

To round it off… I still don’t get why people hate Celine Dion. Someone in another thread said something about cheesy lyrics- as opposed to the deep and original poetry of most pop stars, I guess.

(The previous thread also said something about everybody hating Cats, but I still don’t believe that. No one I talked to IRL had ever heard anything like that).

90% of the things being named aren’t widely hated at all and many of them are widely-loved.

Alright, I realize we’re talking opinions here, but… I had to read your first mention of Oceans Twelve being the best of the three a few times to make sure I was reading it correctly. And now this! If you think Ocean’s 11 took itself too seriously, I’d suggest re-watching it. One of things I like most about Oceans 11 (and I like a lot about it) is how NOT seriously it took itself.

Admittedly, I’m a huge fan of Ocean’s 11. I used to call it my guilty pleasure, but screw that, it’s a great film. The sequels, not so much. Nor the original.

As far as my contributions to the thread… I’ll be yet another person to mention Joe Vs. The Volcano. Love that film.

Oh, and, my big one that makes me hang my head in shame… She’s All That. I know it’s incredibly trite, cliched, and by-the-numbers. But I still find something about it charming and fun.

As a lifelong (well…since it came out) lover of 12 over 11 I have been forced to re-see 11 by every single person who cannot believe that I do actually like 12 more. So I have seen 11 many times and still hold true that twelve is better. I know for a solid fact that I am the only person in existence who thinks so but I will stand by my laurels and say that I enjoyed that movie so much better. The twists were more twisty, the plot was so unbelievable in the things they did that I didn’t get the impression that they actually thought this could happen. Plus I liked the music better…which always helped

ETA: Don’t even get my started on 13…that was just an excuse to make another movie.

Batman & Robin. It completely succeeds at what it set out to be, it just isn’t what a lot of people wanted from a Batman movie. It’s basically a sequel to the 60’s TV show, and it’s really a very well done high-camp movie. I like it a lot more than Batman Begins.

Well, we agree on 13 (although, I did think it was a touch better than 12, but not by much). But the rest, we will have to agree to disagree!

Another vote for Hudson Hawk.

Kesha’s music. I really liked “TiK ToK” but didn’t think she was that big a deal, but then “Take It Off” came out last fall and I’ve been obsessed with her music ever since. It was a big disappointment when I couldn’t see her appearance in Chicago in February, but luckily she’s returning in August! I got my tickets already.
