Meh, this isn’t about him. It’s about disagreeing while conducting yourself with dignity. Perhaps he deserves the fat jokes and more but in doing so you’re only helping him convince people his tactics are working.
‘Roustin’ librahls’ is how he makes a living, the more spittle soaked rage that comes from them the better, his poison is irrelevancy.
Speaking personally, I don’t like Rush Limbaugh. He’s a loathsome, idiotic troll with delusions of grandeur because he’s got an army of idiots at his beck and call to bully spineless politicians.
If I don’t like him, or care about the people who do like him, why the hell should I draw a line? To be “better than he is?” I do a lot of things that make me better than Rush Limbaugh. Thinking would be the biggest. Not to mention the people that like or respect El Rushbo aren’t going to care that I didn’t call him fat when I go on about what a useless ignorant piece of shit he is or how despicable his views are.
Let’s compare two sentences.
Rush Limbaugh is a hateful, vile, ignorant, cruel son of a bitch who spends his days trying to find the one nasty thing to say that will make his fan club of like minded ignorant sons of bitches squeal with glee because that’s the only thing other than viagra that gets his micro phallus erect.

Because it makes it sound like you consider being fat to be a character flaw on par with those other thing an makes me think you direct at least some portion of that vast contempt toward all people who are fat, however intelligent or sweet they otherwise are.
(Bolding mine) I agree with the OP, and it’s certainly not for any pity towards Rush. I just think it’s counterproductive to bring our discourse down to Rush’s level.
I used to be skinny, and even then I never called anyone fat. It just seemed meaner than I want to be, especially when someone like Rush inspires me to be so much more creatively insulting. But I also can’t fault anyone who calls him…well, practically anything, because he really does set himself up for it by being such a bully. It’s kind of like the “learn to read” response see hereabouts on occasion…we should have smarter ways than that to insult people!
:dubious: Maybe new smilies would help. Wouldn’t it be awesome if we had one that meant “you sound like that idiot Rush”?
So, we’re all cool with the supporters of Limbaugh calling Sandra Fluke an ugly dyke then, right?
CMC fnord!
'Cause y’all do know that is what they’re doing? And not a one of them is hearing about how every statement Limbaugh made about Fluke was factually incorrect.
But, hey, if a few more women have to lose an ovary or two, it’s worth it to make this about getting Limbaugh!
I remember a very public feud between comedians Sam Kinnison and Andrew Dice Clay. At one point they were on a radio show (Howard Stern?) trading vicious barbs back and forth, each accusing the other of being no-talent, stealing each others’ material, and all manner of other generic insults.
Sam is giving at least as good as he’s getting when Dice Clay ends up a particular insult-filled harangue with a few choice words like, “You fat effing slob!”
Kinnison starts to respond, checks his speech for a moment, and mutters, “Man, I gotta lose weight. It’s my only vulnerable attack point.”
I have been trying *not *to call the Gov. of New Jersey “that fat fuck,” though that seems to be his default nickname.
He is a bully and a religious fanatic and an overall jerk, but yes, “fat” is out of line and not pertinent. Though he is making noises about running for president, so his weight and health will come into play if he does . . .
He lost 90 lbs. in 2009. Looks to me like he put it back on, plus a little something extra, which is frankly pretty much what you’d expect after such rapid weight loss.
Limbaugh is definitely and systematically making fun of Michelle Obama’s weight and figure.
IMHO, he does this not so much because there’s anything really disproportioned or unattractive about her to make fun of, but because he knows a certain subset of his core audience enjoys snickering over the implied depiction of the First Lady as what they like to call, e.g., “a big-ass jungle cow”. (And yeah, I know that’s a really offensive term. What they actually call her is probably even more offensive.)
