I have no idea what you mean. And who is this Spurrier guy people keep talking about?
He’s the head football coach at NC State. I think there were/are some NFL teams looking at him though.
Here’s something a bit more objective than Power Rankings: The Aikmans for Week 6*
Aikman Rank NFL Rank Team Rating
**OFFENSE**
7. 8. Philadelphia Eagles 82.1
8. 7. Dallas Cowboys 81.7
12. 12. New York Giants 80.1
18. 6. Washington Redskins 74.1
**DEFENSE**
5. 7. Dallas Cowboys 84.7
10. 19. Philadelphia Eagles 79.3
14. 31. New York Giants 74.6
23. 5. Washington Redskins 70.1
*Aikman uses a complex formula, whereas the NFL ranks teams based solely upon offensive yards gained and defensive yards lost
You’re baiting me, aren’t you?
hehheh, but of course. What do you expect? You’ve owned us all century!
You can’t imagine how badly I want a win over the Eagles this year.
Ellis Dee, why settle for just a win? You should be hoping for the full enchilada plate, not just a taco!
It’ll be damn sweet later this year when the Redskins [del]sweep the Cowboys[/del] lose to the Cowboys in a game they already had locked up.
7 days between televised NFL games is too frickin’ long.
6 days, even
I don’t generally follow post- or pre-game chats by the coaches or players, as they usually amount to either trash-talking or mindless repetition of sports cliches, so I missed Joe Gibb’s comments about the officiating in the Denver game 2 weeks back. Only now am I made aware by the fact that he’s been fined 10k for doing it publicly.
I’m relieved by it because it struck me as odd that no one but me thought the officiating was awful. Even my boss, a diehard Broncs fan, didn’t taunt me about the win a single bit. I think everyone realizes that, not only did Denver get away with one against the Skins, but they seem to have amazing “luck” with the calls when they play at home.
Anyone else notice this, or am I just paranoid delusional and trying to make excuses for my team?
Interesting week.
Giants win. (4-2)
Redskins win. (4-2)
Eagles win. (4-2)
Cowboys lose. (4-3)
My picks in bold:
Arz @ Dallas
Wash @ NYG
Phil @ Den
Hmmm…
NY Giants 24, Denver 23
Seattle 13, Dallas 10
Philadelphia 20, San Diego 17
Washington 3,241, San Francisco -12
If only San Diego could have held on…
Darn you Bearflag, you got your post in while I was still composing mine. I wanted to be first.
I was typing my post as quickly as Seattle turned that game around.
The Dallas game wasn’t televised here, so I can’t comment on it other than it sucks and I wish Dallas could build a lead of 15 points or more going into the final 5 minutes, because they are horribly vulnerable to last-minute big-play comebacks.
Tough one for you Dallas lovers. That kick is the one Brown missed against the Redskins in Week 3 allowing them to get a win.
Damn Denver and SD for blowing it! A blocked field goal returned for a touchdown? Yeesh that’s horrific. But Redskins / Giants is going to be a big game next week.
Washington 27, New York Giants 24.
It was tough rooting for the Giants today, with the division being so close, but the only team I like to watch lose as much as Dallas, are the Broncos.
Gmen vs. Skins should be a good game. Denver-Philly should be good too, though it’s in Denver.
Dallas gets its walk-in-the-park day next week, so looks like the division will be just as tight next week.
Where’s Ellis Dee? Figured the gloating would have begun by now. Must be out celebrating
Oh well…three outta four ain’t bad. And WOOHOO, go Giants!
Between the Dallas loss and the Giants win I’m thinking he either drank himself into a coma or died of a heart attack. [sub]And it’s not like that Eagles game was a snooze either[/sub]
Wow, what a fantastic finish. Eli Manning? Icewater in his veins. Amani Toomer? Hands of glue. Tiki Barber? cough clutch. Brandon Jacobs? On the bench. hehheh.
I went to my buddy’s to watch in high def. Man, those helmets are an awesome shade of blue in high definition. The turning point of the game was the clutch defensive stop (3 & out, IIRC) when the Broncos intercepted Eli at midfield with four minutes to go, up by 6. Defense bails out the kid and gives him another shot.
83 yards, 2 timeouts, just over three minutes to play, down by 6 points. That’s a defining position to be in. Eli goes 3 for 3 on third downs, converting all three, including the game winning touchdown to Toomer with 10 seconds on the clock and no timeouts. Just wow. And Eli was not sacked in the game, despite running a vertical attack offense that requires him to hold the ball.
I haven’t sat down with the divisional stuff yet, but several things jumped out at me. The NFC East split its four games between the two West divisions. While we split with the NFC West, (Redskins over 49ers, Seahawks over Cowboys), we swept the AFC West, with the Eagles and Giants beating the Chargers and Broncos respectively. This is notable because many people point to the AFC West as contender for the title of “best division in football”. The NFC East shut those claims up for at least the next week.
Of note is that both wins against the AFC West were home games; I’m curious to see the overall home team record in games between the two divisions. (I know, for example, that the Chargers beat the Giants in San Diego.)
So, am I imagining things, or the did Dallas go from last to first and back to last place in the division in a three week span?
