Maybe I’m dating myself, but I remember a LOT of Hall and Oates – Sarah Smile, Rich Girl, etc. Anybody?
It warms my heart to know that kids are STILL rollerskating in the 21st century!!!
Now if we can just get drive-ins to be popular again…
I did all my roller-skating in the 70s, so I remember Donny Osmond Crazy Horses playing while my father taught me to skate. Late when I went on my own, it was Peter Frampton I Want You (to show me the way), Eddie Money Baby Hold On To Me, and lots of disco. The roller rink was the one place you were guaranteed to hear Disco Duck.
I remember Der Komissar by Falco and earlier, pretty much anything from Michael Jackson’s Off the Wall, including Don’t Stop 'til You Get Enough and Rock with You.
I just have to say that I know damn near every song in this thread, and I love most of them. I have just blown any music snob cred I may have gotten some day, I realize.
(HelloKitty, I would love to go to a drive-in movie with my husband. Maybe we could even, you know, christen the new car. winkwink, nudgenudge)
That would be Grand Funk Railroad or Little Eva.
No one has mentioned to ultimate roller skating song only because it was about skating, Brand New Key by Melanie Geeyod I hate that song.
Hot Child in the City
Oh man, “Pac Man Fever”!! I heard that one a lot.
… and try to keep the rink from shutting down…

Those are still popular.
We always had a backwards disco ball skate to the Ghostbusters theme.
Don’t feel bad. That’s how I get all of my dates.
Or maybe OMD (Orchestral Manoevres in the Dark)? That would have been early 80’s, more of a synth-pop version.
Mention of ELO reminds me of Don’t Bring Me Down. I also remember a lot of Hall and Oates - Maneater, I Can’t Go for That; Toto - Rosanna, Africa; Asia - * Heat of the Moment, Only Time Will Tell*; Power Station - Bang a Gong; and of course, Duran Duran - Rio, Hungry Like the Wolf, Girls on Film.
And there’s the riff of another tune floating around in my head now that I only ever heard at the rink, but I can’t remember title or artist at all. Guess that riff will be my earworm for the rest of the day.
“Bounce, Rock, Skate” Vaughn Mason & Crew
Definitely Another One Bites the Dust by Queen and Abracadabra by The Steve Miller Band.
My aunt ran a roller rink in Fairmont, WV. She always played “Country Roads.” I always liked the song, even though the features John Denver associates with West Virginia (Blue Ridge Mountains, Shenandoah River) are in Virginia. It has a good beat for skating with long, slow strides.
And, of course, she also played “Brand New Key.” I wanted to shoot her for that.
Ironically, it’s nearly impossible to skate to; you just have to try and ignore it till it’s over.
Fast skate was Crazy Train by Ozzy Ozbourne.
Slow songs were Hard to Say I’m Sorry by Chicago and Time After Time by Cyndi Lauper.
Other songs were Too Much Time on My Hands, Mr. Telephone Man, Der Komissar (as my lovely sister pointed out), and lots of Duran Duran.
