My partial supervisor (“for 37 seconds a day”) has taken to playing music in what Lem called, “my wheelhouse,” Fifties to seventies R&B and Soul. Maybe he’s trying to impress his new girlfriend, who doesn’t realize he’s twice her age, and these are the sounds of her mother and grandmother. Don’t care, since it’s what I choose to listen to.
Anyway, “Flashlight” by Parliament came on, and Cheryl called it Skating Music. Unlike everything else, it was new to me, and I’m only barely exposed to the roller rink scene, but damn! It flows like a bunch of skaters, and magnificently relaxing, but with a beat. I need more. Suggestions?
No, none of those have the skating flow. They are too abrupt. Imagine yourself in a large group of friends, becoming part of the group, and flowing, lap after lap, with the group. Perhaps someone tries something special, and it’s alright, 'cuz he fits right back into the flow.
I guess it all depends on when you were doing your skating. I remember Rapper’s Delight, Don’t Stop Till You Get Enough, Celebration, and various Abba garbage.
Yeah and then when I was skating, after that, it was a lot of hair metal.
No way my mom would have let me listen to whatever radio station played “Cherry Pie” but I still know all the words! From dozens of Girl Scout skate nights!
Oh, yes, ‘Good Times’ by Chic. I picture skating along a path like at Venice Beach in California in booty shorts, and we get ‘clams on the half shell’ at a little stand…one of my favorite fantasies in the past.
“The Politics of Dancing” by Re-Flex. AWESOME skating song.
