In this thread, Ed Zotti repeated what I told him, namely, that my doctor told me that she was going to put me in the hospital.
It turns out that I didn’t need to be hospitalized. I AM getting outpatient therapy a couple of times a week for a month. I was evaluated yesterday and got my first therapy session today. My lower legs are extremely swollen with lymph, and I have poor circulation, among other things. I got my legs massaged and wrapped very tightly today. The therapist has promised me that I’m going to feel much better when the lymph starts draining out of my legs. I should also be MUCH less prone to cellulitis flareups, too. I feel better after just this one treatment.
PLUS, I am not stuck in a hospital, and there were absolutely NO needles involved in the treatment.
The downside is that I have what amounts to semirigid casts on my legs, and I’m going to have to wrap the wrappings in plastic bags to shower. I had to wait for almost a week, thinking that I was going to go into the hospital and fretting about it. I was lying with my feet propped up and eating my husband’s cooking. Worst of all, I seem to have worried quite a few people.
I’m a bit embarrassed NOT to have gone in the hospital, but my doctor told me that she was going to hospitalize me.
At any rate, I’m not in the hospital, I’m not going in, I AM getting treatment, and I’m already starting to feel better. I’m still not supposed to sit for long periods of time.
My thanks to everyone who expressed concern. Your well-wishes helped me a great deal.
Welcome back, and I hope the treatments keep making you feel better.
Quick question : You’re not supposed to sit for long, but you have mummified legs ?!? What does Doc think you should do, swing from the rafters all day ?
Does that mean the *Sacrificing of the Trolls High Mass and Brew Ha Ha * to appease the Evil OverLord of Cellulitis is now cancelled?
Nuts.
(Glad to hear the news. Will your therapy include large inflatable sock thingies that pressurize your legs? My uncle has bad circulation and has to do this every night or he swells up like a balloon.)
Glad to hear that you didn’t need to be admitted to the hospital after all. Must’ve been a huge relief to you! Concentrate on getting better and don’t worry about us Dopers. We’ll understand if we don’t see you much for a while. But we sure will miss you!
Wow, that’s really great. But just one thing…the mummified legs. Here’s a website with pictures of various “freak of nature” cats, and one of them had a mummified foot. It’s about 3/4 of the way down the page. It’s what I thought of as soon as I read your post.
I should be either lying down (preferably with my feet propped up) or walking, according to the therapist. Sitting down for long periods of time just makes the fluid pool in my legs. So actually hanging from the rafters all day MIGHT help my legs!
The mummy wrappings go from just above my toes to just below my knees. I call them “mummifications” because the therapist kneaded my legs, put ointment on them, encased them in cotton knit stockings, put some cushioning over the stockings, and then wrapped my legs in something that looks like an Ace bandage, but doesn’t stretch as much. Then she stickytaped the whole mess. So…it’s not beautiful, but it feels pretty good.
And now I’m going to bed. My OWN bed. And nobody’s going to wake me at 4 AM to take a blood sample!
Congrats, Lynn… So, going to be sitting with your legs up more often? My chair’s next to my bed, and I tend to type sideways with my feet on it, myself. How about a big pile of beanbags, or something? Need more height than a footstool.
