BooKid has been suffering from a stuffy head, her voice sounds funny. The doc prescribed anti-biotics - no change, Claritin - no change, another allergy medication - aha! a little better. But her boyfriend thinks she’s trimmed her nose hair too much, and that now it’s growing back she’s improving.
She’s busily but reluctantly growing it back now - anyone have any experience similar? It makes sense to me that more stuff going up her sleek little nostrils is causing the reaction.
Makes sense to me. Nose hairs and nose mucous are there to catch stuff before it goes into the sinuses/lungs. I find it effective to clean out my nose when I shower, just using my finger and water. I do have a nose stud, so the area around it can get a little gunky, which is partly why I do it.
There are some other easy things you can do to cut down on allergens. Change pillowcases daily (get a bunch at the thrift store if you don’t have many now), and bed linens weekly. Be sure to wash face before bed, and wash (or at least rinse) hair daily. Keep bedroom door closed during the day, and use an air purifier machine in the bedroom.
I think the way nose hair tickles can make the overall impression of allergies worse. Also, from the standpoint of filtration theory (yes there is such a thing), nose hair can’t be doing much. I suspect nose hair is more important for catching bugs than anything else.
If I may be so bold as to suggest the use of a neti pot twice a day, I too have allergies and have been using a neti pot for sometime, and have to say there is an appreciable subsidence in mucus activeity.
Thanks all, NadaHappyCamper I’ve actually got one, she’s used it a few times, but it’s to convince her to use it consistently so she’ll see the results . - I’ll have another try at getting her into it. Maybe the driving force will be that she can still trim her nose hair and use it!
Well this is the thing. I know plenty of people who appear to have nearly no nose hair at all. When my nose hairs tickle I know I’m in for a satisfying sneeze session so surely it’s blasting out the irritant.
