Allow me to share a tale of my stupidity...

Taking a clue from one of those “What are we reading?” threads in CS a while back, I’ve been reading 109 E. Palace, which is a neat back-story of Los Alamos and Oppenheimer.

In the book there’s a lot of talk about the local geography, towns, parks, lodges and such.

Now, I am usually a Multimedia kind of reader. Let’s say for example I’m reading a Kinky Friedman book - while I’m reading, I will invariably have a glass of Jameson’s close by and exchange witty repartee with the cat. If the book is set in a locale, I’ll either have an atlas open close by, or Google Earth or some such thing so I can play Carmen Sandiego while I read.

So. Last night, I set the book aside for a minute, grab the laptop and Google Earth for Los Alamos.

Guess what? There are no really clear satellite shots of Los Alamos.

I KNOW! Who’d have figured that the US Government wouldn’t publish Hi-Res pictures of a nuclear research facility? :wally
