Allstate... Mayhem

There has to be some ad guy being fired over these commercials. They have to be about the stupidest commercials I’ve seen in awhile Are they trying to outwit the Geico or Progressive commercials…?

And I kept thinking the guy looked familiar-- is he the guy from HBO’s *OZ *who played the Irish guy (was it Ryan O’Reilly or something like that)? What the hell is an actor of his caliber doing stupid commercials like this?

Allstate usually has the guy who played Pres. Palmer on “24” in them, so I wouldn’t be surprised if they had another decently-reputable actor in their latest.

It seems to me businesses don’t care anymore if commercials make them look good or not, they only want you to remember them.

So, if ever you need insurance, you will think:

“Oh yea, there was that stupid commercial about an insurance company, what was there name? Allstate, that’s it, I’ll give them a call”

There you go, purpose served.

Good point, but “President Palmer” was just himself, as a spokesman. He wasn’t dressed in a suit, sitting the back of a car, spitting foam out of his mouth, telling us he’s a dog chewing on the seats…

I kinda like those commercials.

It’s Dean Winters, who’s been a lot of stuff.

When I first saw the commercials, and saw the “Mayhem is coming” but didn’t see the Allstate at the end, I thought they were for some new show on FX or TNT or something. Which looked really cool.

Kinda? I love these commercials.

“Flo” at progressive creeps me out, and that silly gecko has been on my nerves for years. The new geico clips with Elmer Fudd are simply dumb.

I love these commercials. (although I hate Allstate and would never buy from them, no matter the commercial)

Me too! I love Dean Winters. He’s been on 30 Rock, which I don’t watch. Maybe he’ll show up as a ghost on Rescue Me this season.

I like the ad too.

The latest commercial is a little better. He’s still the same character, but now he’s at least delivering a pretty conventional spiel.

I don’t think I’ve seen that one. The ones I’ve seen are:

  • puppy in back seat of car
  • teenage girl on cell phone
  • hot babe jogging
  • wind storm up in a tree

I hope he’s being paid handsomely for humiliating himself like this.

Agreed. They’re fairly clever and they are a big change from the sterile “insurance office” setting (which Flo is just a spinoff of) or the “car crash” setting.

I was thinking about the last one you mentioned, actually. I mean, even as he’s shaking the tree limb, he’s at least talking about buying insurance. The one where he’s the puppy, on the other hand, just flashes “Mayhem is coming” and the Allstate logo.
