Keb’ Mo’ is awesome. A friend of mine is good friends with Kevin, so I’ve gotten to hang out with him whenever he tours near Pittsburgh. He is as intelligent and down to earth as he is talented.
With winter on its way, I wish I were there.

Hello and be welcome here, ~Olive~.
It’s a fun little community once you’ve had a chance to poke around.
Hello there! and Welcome!
Hi, and welcome!
I’m just getting into Hawaiian music. There’s a great college radio station that plays island tunes every Friday morning here in the bay area, and I’ve ordered a CD or two based on some artists I’ve heard. I love a lively tune sung in the Hawaiian language best, and I mean to learn more about it.
Have you any recommendations?
If I may give one: The late, great [Israel “Iz” Kaʻanoʻi Kamakawiwoʻole](Israel “IZ” Kaʻanoʻi Kamakawiwoʻole). Besides his more traditional fare, his Hawaiian-style renditions of Over the Rainbow and Louis Armstrong are wonderful.
Welcome! You’ll find quite a few of us have ties to Hawaii, either having been born and raised there, gone to school or stationed there, or have vacationed or retired there.
I myself was born and raised and educated there, splitting time between Honolulu and Waipahu. I now live on da mainlan’.
And I would’ve been tickled if you called it pakalolo.
Mmmmm…poke.
if you go to kkcr.org …look at the times …listen to a lot of different hawaiian musicians …
i love hawaiian music …kanikapila here and there …
there is nothing better than having a bunch of hawaiians over with ukuleles …singing the night away …
i live on the westside of kauai …(the very best)
Hi Olive.
You’ll like it here. I sure do. :0)
Welcome Olive! There’s a friendly bunch of people here (and a few jerks). As was already mentioned, we have an abundance of quirky. Methinks you’ll like it here.
We were there in 2005. Stayed in a nice B&B in Kilauea on the North Shore but made it to the west side. (For you Mainlanders, not Kilauea the volcano on the Big Island, but rather Kilauea the village on Kauai.) Waimea Canyon … Koke’e State Park. Love those nene and the feral chickens. There was a little baby nene that everyone was going gaga over at Kilauea Point, me and everyone else taking its picture, and a park ranger was saying it was the most photographed one ever. Cute little guy, waddling around.
I seem to recall another Doper on Kauai. Mayybe in Lihu’e?
Kilauea is nice, especially that great fish store and plate lunch joint (name unremembered). We were also on the north shore around 2005 and again a couple of years later.
Speaking of Kilauea, it’s time to trot out my link to this fellow again. Note his place of capture.
Cool. My cousin lives near Lihue. I visited her on Kauai and also checked out Oahu a few years ago. I got my turtle tattoo there. Do you have three jobs like everyone else there?
Love, love, love Kauai. I’ve vacationed there twice, staying in a condo a few miles from Lihue. I didn’t get to go this year, but am hoping we’ll be back next September.
I don’t do any of the tours or anything like that. I basically hang out on the various beaches every day. I’ve been to Waiamea Canyon though and it’s pretty cool. I’ve traveled to all sides of the island just to see it (well as far as one could go by car anyway). I’ve been to “Secret Beach” which isn’t so secret, but is quite beautiful.
I couldn’t not say hello.
My best advice: Ignore the jerks, and embrace the silly. And feel free to march forth with me any ol’ time.
what a warm welcome from everyone …thanks …
i am still getting myself familiar with the boards …
everyone seems so civil …giggles
~
Oh, we’re all a civil bunch. No conflict here ever, heh. ![]()
Hi Olive. You sound like a nice person. Hawaii sounds cool. You’re in the right place, this board is full of quirks.
I usually try to be really annoying, and even incomprehensible, especially to a newcomer, but it’s been a long day, and I’m kind of spent. Next time I’ll try to be extra obnoxious to make it up to you. Hope your having a good time here.
