On my PC, when I open the Windows folder on C:, the hard drive, the files are listed in reverse alphabetical order. How do I get the list to show the normal order?
Click the bar at the top of the pane labelled “Name”. The triangle next to it should change to indicate the direction of alphabetical ordering.
sigh This should go on the FAQ. It’s getting asked as often as “what does ‘Hi, Opal!’ mean?”
Sort the files the way you want them, using the method pointed out by Crusoe, then hold down control, and click the close button.
Assuming you’re in windows 9x or 2000…
the problem, as I see it, is that it’s not well-documented, and difficult to search for in the sd archives. I’ve personally answered it at least 4 times in the last couple months, but all I could find in the archives was this one, and it wasn’t even answered.
sheesh.
Clicking the Name heading to sort by name will only work if the window is in Details view. To change the window to Details view click View on the menu bar and select, you guessed it, Details.
If you want to sort by Name without changing the view to Details, go to the View menu and click Arrange Icons --> By Drive letter if you’re in the My Computer window or Arrange Icons --> Name if you’re in any other window.
