I’m looking at colleges and have specific criteria. I’d appreciate any help whatsoever.

Um…I think you’re gonna have to relax the “criminology as a major” criterion. What you might want to do is look at schools that have good sociology departments and see how many of their courses/professors deal with criminology.
AFAIK, criminology’s more the sort of thing you’d get a master’s or PhD in, rather than an undergraduate degree. Have you tried a google search?
Bear in mind, though, that my expertise is due to my roommate’s being a sociology major, so take my advice with a grain of salt.

There’s just a bit of a difference here. Criminology is specifically what I’m looking for and not Criminal Justice.
Does John Jay have criminology? It might. When I’m at the office, I’ll check this out.
But I agree, different schools are going to call this different things. It might be a major in criminal justice, with a concentration in criminology. You have to be a little flexible when you’re looking at schools.
My college (Cal State Fresno) fits the first three, but I wouldn’t exactly describe it as selective in any sense. Still, it does offer Criminology, with options in victimology, law enforcement, and corrections.
If you’re having problems finding colleges you like that offer it though, I agree with ultrafilter that sociology would probably be a good background before persueing a master’s. Also, it’s likely that some schools offer a degree in sociology an emphasis in criminology. I know that Cal Poly offers an emphasis on criminal justice, which while not what you’re wanting sets some precedant.
It sounds like what you’re looking for is going to be at a state university. I saw that you are in Florida - you might try looking at the state u’s there if you haven’t already.
My alma mater, Bowling Green State University in Ohio, offers a Sociology degree with a concentration in criminology. They also have a Criminal Justice degree, and they have a very good psychology department. Some of the best courses I took there were the psych ones.
On the plus side, it wouldn’t be too horribly expensive to go to out of state if you really wanted to, the people are very nice, and the whole school is geared toward undergrads, so you get the help and attention you need from the faculty.
On on minus side, the school is located in a rural area that is as flat as a board and it gets bitchin’ cold out there in the winter. And, they have the ugliest college web site I think I’ve ever seen (the school colors are brown and orange … UGH UGH UGH).

And while I’m at it, why didn’t I put in a plug for the University system I work for here in NC?
North Carolina State University also has a Criminology degree they offer thru their Sociology department, and they offer psychology as well. I don’t know the reputation of these particular departments, but at least the weather’s better here in the winter!
Thanks guys. I looked at a few of the schools that offer it, and most of them offer it either as part of a criminal justice program or as part of a sociology program. I don’t know why I’m going crazy over this when I’ve already got 7 colleges that I plan on applying to, three of which are in state. I guess I’m more scared that I won’t get in to any of them… and I know that’s not true, but it’s entirely possible.
There’s always USF here in Tampa. Have you applied there?
Dude! I went to Bowling Green’s website, just to see how ugly it is–did you know that they offer a degree in pop culture!!!
The pop culture dept. at BG was the only one of its kind back when I went to school there. I don’t think there is anywhere else in the country where you can get a graduate degree in it even today. But since the only use I can think of for such a degree is for teaching purposes, that’s probably enough.
The profs there get quoted fairly frequently in the weekly news magazines.
At the time I was there, Dr. Nachbar was the dept. chair, and when you’d walk into the department office a life-size cutout of Elvis would greet you right by the door.
