Alt.fan.cecil-adams - the poster who loved Vic Morrow

Vic Morrow’s name came up the other day and for some reason I thought of the woman poster from the alt.fan.cecil-adams Usenet group who loved him. I really can’t remember any details but she brought his name up in all sorts of topics and waxed eloquently about him. She was really fixated. I don’t think she ever responded to questions about why she did this. The thing is - although I am pretty certain it was Vic Morrow, I’m not 100% sure. Do any of the old-old timers remember this?

I searched.
It’s hard since they are not supported anymore.
The Way back machine is a difficult site to navigate.

I love reading that old stuff, tho’.

You were hoping to find Cecil on there, right?

I can’t help you, sorry.

But your question made me think of the poster who was crazy for some country singer. Every other post was her gushing about him.

Anyone remember the singer’s name?

(forgive the hijack)

mmm

You got it.

I remember a poster named JamesOttoSweetheart, who was my introduction to the singer mentioned in her handle. She was eventually banned.

Was she ever on the old AOL board, or here? Or was it all Usenet?

in the days of usenet, was there such a thing a banning? I thought the whole usenet was unmoderated, and that’s why it became useless. But I barely remember those days.

There were .nospam groups. Mods would flag Spam or off topic posts for deletion. I was in one of those groups and spent time every day flagging Spam.

Unfortunately only some Usenet servers recognized the delete tag and would filter it out.

Other servers left the .nospam groups filled with Spam. Ruining all our efforts.

That eventually drove most people away from Usenet. Yahoo Groups became popular for a few years. At least until text based discussion groups became passé.

I don’t remember if .cecil-adams tried deleting Spam. It wasn’t a .nospam group.

I think there were also groups with “moderated” in the name?

I meant she was banned here on the SDMB. I never encountered her on Usenet, unless she was posting there as something other than JamesOttoSweetheart.
