Alternatives to Rush?

Don’t worry, Coldfire…I’m talking Limbaugh here.

A local radio station here plays 9 hours!!! of straight, conservative talk radio. 3 hours of Dr. Laura, 3 hours of Rush Limbaugh, and 3 hours of The Black Avenger (Ken Hamblin). I know that there’s no way, here in the land of the conservative, that I’d ever have exposure to real liberal media, but I was wondering if it even existed out there?

Is there a radio talk show equivalent to Rush Limbaugh?
(I put this in IMHO because I didn’t think it was really important enough for GQ and because I think “liberal” and “conservative” are pretty subjective terms.)

doesn’t G Gordon Liddy have one, too?

count your blessings…

Oh. I thought this was a thread about the new Geddy Lee solo album coming out next week (or so).

Triumph.

And damn you for ruining this joke with your disclaimer.

Feh.

You got it easy. Up here in WA state they start at 5 am with a local Rush wannabe, 3 hours of Rush, and then on into the night with more local Rush wannabees. And get this - the current Republican gubernatorial candidate’s main claim to fame was that he was once one of the local Rush wannabees. No elective office ever - just a big mouth in the local radio market. Same pitch as Bush and Jesse Ventura, too: “I offer leadership,” and “I don’t need experience - I’ll hire the best advisors.” Huh?

It’s not so much the conservative rhetoric I don’t like - American conservatism isn’t any more beyond logical construct than liberalism. It’s just the strident, SMUG and us-versus-them notes being hit over and over.

Colin’s Sleazy Friends is a talk show out of LA where Colin (the guy from the Mr. Show sketch with the 5 inch taint) interviews various porn stars.

Its on public access doesn’t cover political issues but I consider it a viable, liberal alternative to Rush.

I receive 13 hrs. of conservative radio starting at 6:00am until 7:00 pm. We get Rush plus local wackos. What kills me is most of the conversation is ranting about the “liberal media” day in and day out.

You’re well informed, David! I’m curious about that album - thanks Satan, for the heads-up

G. Gordon Liddy runs opposite Rush where I live, and I vastly prefer Liddy. Sure he’s republican, but he reads the news and is at least open minded. I mean, he takes calls on air from people who disagree with him, something I have never ever heard Rush do. Ever. Liddy’s cool. Plus (hijack imminent), his show leads directly into the show of Don & Mike, radio gods. (end hijack)

Here ya go:

http://www.mikemalloy.net

Click “radio program info” and then “listen”. I’m listening to him right now. Mike Malloy is probably the greatest liberal talk show host alive today.

Atomic: thanks for the link. I don’t have a soundcard here at work, but I’ll check it out when I get home today. I looked around the site, but I couldn’t find a listing of stations. Is there one on there?

Nice to know, though, that the “liberal media” is getting its hooks into talk radio!!

Why Triumph, Satan? Because they’re also a power trio from Canada? Just asking; I’m a fan of both bands and find Triumph to be slightly more “musical”, although Neal Pert’s lyrics are superior compositions.

A Geddy Lee solo effort? What the hell? Is Rush Limbaugh penning the lyrics?

Definitely head on over to http://www.webactive.com and listen to the RealAudio streams from Pacifica News, Democracy Now, Jim Hightower, RadioNation, Counterspin, etc.

Great site.

There’s an mp3 of the title song, My Favorite Headache floating around the net. It’s … interesting.

Thanks, I’ll… download that and delete it within 24 hours

Coldy -

If you find it, email me the link, wouldja?

Awww . . . I was really hoping you were going to say Zebra.

What is this…MPSIMS???

Coldfire: Of course I’m well-informed. Jeez, I used to run a BBS called “The Temples of Syrinx” fercryingoutloud!

(OK, I accidentally heard about it on The Loop while driving to Chicago last weekend – and heard the single as well.)

I’m guessing that Neil wasn’t ready to go back to the studio after what he’s been through lately.

Yup, that’s exactly why. And, Geddy, while promoting his album, announced that the band is going back into the studio this winter. Whoo!

Allegedyly, Alex has Victor II completed and waiting on the shelf. I heard a rumour that Sarah McLachlan sings a song on it, too.
